Fun Fact Friday! πŸ§πŸ”ŽπŸ‘€

One of the longest words in the English dictionary is the definition for the fear or phobia of long words! πŸ“–

'Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia' is 36 letters long and is sometimes shortened to 'Sesquipedalophobia' for simplicity. 😳😁

'Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis' is longer, with 45 letters. It is the name of a type of lung disease. It is widely considered the longest word in English dictionaries.

If you count scientific terms not listed in standard dictionaries, the chemical name for the giant protein titin (the largest protein known to humankind) has 189,819 letters. It takes about three hours to say out loud.

FUN FACT FRIDAY
They’re standing out in the crowd.
All the planets in our solar system move anticlockwise around the sun and all spin anticlockwise on their axis except Venus which spins clockwise and Uranus which spins on clockwise but on its side.
Venus and Uranus mostly likely took hits from other objects in the solar system at some point in their youth that knocked them off their axes. Often it’s the bumps we encounter on the rocky road of life that shape our uniqueness.

National Science Week starts tomorrow – 15-23 August. The Tasmanian Beaker Street Festival winds up this Sunday but it’s not too late to catch one of their fun science events across the state this weekend. Find out more here https://www.beakerstreet.com.au/
