We were pleased to provide a bursary award to Max Gorham - a student at St Marys District High School as part of our bursary award presentation in December, 2025, Max has provided an update of his efforts so far working towards his preferred career goal as follows:-
When I applied for this Bursary last year, I expressed an interest in becoming an engineer in the Australian Defence Force, particularly in the area of aerospace engineering. This is still an area that interests me because I have always enjoyed problem solving, science, mathematics, and understanding how complex systems work. I have also been interested in the idea of serving the community and contributing to something larger than myself.
This bursary award has enabled me to purchase stationery and textbooks for my studies without added financial stress, which has been greatly appreciated.
Currently in school I am studying Physical Sciences, Mathematics Methods 3, English 3 and Automotive and Mechanical Technologies 2. These subjects are helping me build my analytical and problem-solving skills and are giving me a strong foundation for engineering-related pathways.
Outside of school, I have continued to develop my interests in engineering, technology, sustainability, and personal growth. I have also been exploring ideas for projects and developing practical skills that could be useful in my future career.
Although the past year has been challenging at times, it has also helped me mature and reflect on what is important to me. I still feel positive about pursuing a career that allows me to solve problems, help people, and continue learning, whether that is through engineering in the Defence Force or another engineering pathway.
I am very grateful for the support provided through the bursary, and it has encouraged me to continue working hard towards my goals and keeping my options open as I move closer to making decisions about my future.
