Our South Stormont firefighters will be in St. Andrews today from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. collecting donations in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada as part of the national Fill the Boot campaign.

This event is a success year after year because of the incredible support of our community. If you’re passing through St. Andrews this morning, stop by, say hello, and help us fill the boot!

Last night, our members participated in auto extrication training, sharpening the skills needed to safely and efficiently rescue occupants involved in motor vehicle collisions.

Vehicle technology continues to evolve and so do the challenges first responders face. From electric and hybrid vehicles with high-voltage systems to pressurized components, airbags, gas struts and other hidden hazards, understanding modern vehicle construction is critical to ensuring both patient and firefighter safety. Training allows us to recognize these dangers, apply the appropriate techniques, and work quickly when every second matters for a patient with serious injuries or medical emergencies.

Regular hands-on practice helps our crews maintain proficiency with specialized tools, improve teamwork, and stay prepared for the complex situations we may encounter on the road.

A special thank you to our local tow yard partners for providing vehicles and space to train. Their support allows us to practice realistic scenarios and maintain the skills necessary to serve our community when it matters most.
