A big thank you to Hanad and Mahamed from Think Village for coming down to Afri-Aus Care to screen their documentary, The Runner, with our young people and Women’s Support Group.

The documentary is a powerful short-film awareness campaign exploring criminal grooming and exploitation, its impact on the communities, and the importance of prevention and support.

The film was well received by both the young people and mothers, sparking meaningful conversations about youth crime, prevention, early intervention, and how we can support young people to make positive choices.

This was a great start to an important conversation. We all have a role to play in supporting our young people and helping prevent them from becoming involved in crime.

Thank you again to Think Village for using storytelling to create awareness and start these important conversations.

The Afri-Aus Care Statewide Sports Tournament 2026 was a great success, bringing together 8 schools and more than 120 young people to compete across Basketball, Futsal and Dodgeball.
The tournament would not have been possible without the incredible people, organisations, schools, staff and volunteers who came together to make the day a success.

Afri-Aus Care Statewide Sports Tournament 2026

What an incredible day of sport, culture and community!

It was a pleasure to welcome Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Tim Marshall, Dean of the School Professor Katherine Johnson, Associate Professor Ronnie Egan, and Nana Koduah from RMIT’s School of Global Urban and Social Studies to Afri-Aus Care.

A special thank you to the Monash Health Green Bus team for their continued support. Their regular visits to Afri-Aus Care provide valuable health care and outreach services to our community. This initiative is greatly appreciated, and we are grateful for their ongoing commitment.

A big thank you to Victorian Legal Aid for coming back to Afri-Aus Care and delivering another important and informative workshop with the Mamas.
The workshop was very well received, with the mamas asking thoughtful questions about child protection and the challenges that families can face when navigating these situations. Understanding how to respond and where to seek support can help people make informed and confident decisions.

Workshops like this play an important role in empowering the community with knowledge, confidence and awareness. Helping people understand their rights, navigate support services and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

A special thank you to Mayoori and Zarita for sharing your expertise and answering questions.

We recently brought together our in school mentors for a professional development training session, providing an opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen their skills as they continue supporting young people across Melbourne's South East.

Our mentors do an incredible job making a positive difference in the lives of students every day. Their commitment, compassion, and dedication help empower the next generation to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.

Thank you to Frazer and Kudzai for leading the training and equipping our mentors with valuable knowledge and practical skills.

We also want to thank the Department of Education and the Brian M. Davis Foundation for their ongoing support of the work we do.

The Ubuntu Mamas bring joy to the centre, Through their warm presence and the beautiful meals they prepare, they create a space filled with care, connection, and belonging.

The centre has become a vibrant community hub where women come together to share stories, build friendships, and support one another through shared experiences.
