On Friday, AAC celebrated Africa Day at Cranbourne Carlisle Primary School. It was incredible to see the students, teachers, and community all coming together to celebrate the significance of this special day.

We would also like to thank everyone who attended and took part in the celebration. It was wonderful to see young African people coming together to honour such an important day.

A special shoutout to Jacob Oryem and our mentors who worked alongside him to make the day such a success. Together, we celebrated the richness of African heritage and the strength of community.

We also want to sincerely thank the Victorian Department of Education for your ongoing support and commitment to empowering African-Australian children and young people across Melbourne’s South East.

HAPPY AFRICA DAY!

Afri-Aus Care’s Pathways to Black Rhinos League program is focused on supporting young people involved in the justice system by giving them something positive to be part of.

Through mentoring, basketball, and community connection, we want to create a safe space where young people can build confidence, stay active, and feel like they belong. The program is not just about basketball, it’s about building relationships, fostering respect, discipline, teamwork, and helping young people make better choices for their future. The young people involved have the opportunity to join the Black Rhinos Basketball League, giving them something positive and consistent to commit to each week.

What an incredible night at the Rhinos Grand Final! It was a close game, with Rhinos South East taking the title by just a few points.

It was great to have special guests in attendance, including Stefan Koomen (Mayor of Casey), Andrea Davidson (Interim CEO of the Violence Reduction Unit), Robert Fisher (Rotary Melbourne), and Emma Eckhart with her team from Community Bank Dingley Village

A big thank you to all our partners and sponsors for your continued support of the Black Rhinos

It was a pleasure to host Tim Richardson and his team at Afri-Aus Care. We appreciated the opportunity to share more about the work we do and the impact of our programs across the South East, particularly in supporting young people, families, and those at risk in our community.

The visit allowed for a meaningful and open discussion around the challenges many face, as well as the importance of culturally responsive programs, community connection, and ongoing support. We’re grateful for the time taken to listen, engage, and better understand the needs on the ground.

Thanks to Meng Heang Tak for being part of the conversation. We look forward to building on these connections and working together to strengthen outcomes for our community.
