We were proud to be part of the Multicultural Social Network Dinner on the Gold Coast, alongside our Community Development, Care Finder, HSP, and Cura Aged Care teams. It was a beautiful evening celebrating diversity, community, and the incredible contributions of volunteers and leaders who are making a difference.

Today on Mabo Day, we honour the life and legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo and recognise the significance of the historic 1992 Mabo decision.

Mabo Day is a time to reflect on truth, justice and the strength of First Nations peoples, whose custodianship of Country has continued for tens of thousands of years.

At MCCGC, we acknowledge the importance of this day in Australia’s history and pay respect to the legacy of Eddie Mabo, whose courage helped pave the way for native title recognition and a more truthful national story.

MCCGC was proud to host the 2nd Gold Coast Multicultural Network Meeting for 2026 during DFV Prevention Month, embracing this year’s theme: “Together Queenslanders can prevent domestic and family violence.”

Thank you to our partners – Multicultural Families Organisation (MFO), Domestic Violence Prevention Centre (DVPC), and Queensland Police Service (QPS) – for sharing their expertise and strengthening our response to DFV in CALD communities. Highlights included:
🔹 MFO’s SARA program training on the effective use of interpreters and translators to improve outcomes and best practice
🔹 Insights into the Domestic Violence Integrated Response Plan (launched officially today by DVPC) and the role each and every one of us have in ensuring safe communities
🔹 The critical role of specialised QPS staff in keeping our communities safe

Thank you to our members who braved the weather and committed to the collective call to action to recognise, report and help stop violence in our communities.

We recently wrapped up our first Women’s Wellness Creative Circle, a 10-week program created to help women come together to connect, feel calm and uplifted, share stories, and explore ways to care for their bodies, minds, and spirits. This is an initiative run with our MCCGC participants' programs.

In our sessions, we focused on building connections, healing, and empowerment through art in a warm and welcoming space where women:

✅ Connect with others
✅ Feel happy, calm, and supported
✅ Share stories, experiences, and emotions
✅ Learn ways to care for themselves
✅ Feel strong, confident, and celebrated
✅ Honour culture, tradition, and belonging

Our final session was a beautiful celebration of creativity and community. Participants shared the artworks they created throughout the program and reflected on their personal journeys, moments of growth, courage, healing, and self-discovery. We are grateful and proud as each woman’s voice and story was honoured.

A huge thank you to our wonderful participants for bringing openness and creativity to every session, and to our amazing Suheir from the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) team for delivering this program with such care and love. We look forward to more circles ahead, creating space for reflection, wellbeing, and connection across our community.
