2032 Legacy in Motion Summit - Panelist Announcement

Join an incredible panel of leaders, advocates and changemakers as they explore one of the most important conversations facing our community — how we create more inclusive, connected and equitable opportunities through sport, recreation and physical activity.

Facilitated by the incredible Carol Fox -featuring:
- Professor Liz Franz
- Naomi McCarthy OAM
- Ben Noonan
- Lee Harrington
- TJ Hendy

This interactive discussion will tackle the future of women and girls' participation, disability inclusion, leadership, systems change and the partnerships needed to create lasting impact.

Together, our panel will explore:
• The legacy we want to leave for future generations
• The barriers still preventing equitable participation
• How inclusion can become embedded in culture and leadership
• Opportunities for greater collaboration across sport, health, education and community sectors
• Practical actions organisations can take right now to drive change

This is more than a panel discussion. It's an opportunity to learn from experts, challenge thinking, build connections and be part of shaping a stronger Gold Coast for 2032 and beyond.

*Now open* National survey seeking participants - Sport and physical activity experiences of women/girls/nonbinary people with disability.

Here is the link - https://inclusivefutures.griffith.edu.au/embeds/projects/88296/survey-tools/120207

You can complete this survey if you are a woman/girl/nonbinary person with disability aged 16+, regardless of how much sport you do or do not play.

This survey explores how women, girls and nonbinary people with a disability engage with sport and physical activity. It seeks to generate more in-depth understandings of the key enablers and benefits of participation, and how participation can be improved. The research will contribute new knowledge to transform programs, policies and practice resources across adaptive and mainstream sports.

The survey takes approximately 10-15 minutes and there is a prize draw.

The project is funded by the Australian Research Council (LP240100066) and it is conducted by Griffith University, University of Technology Sydney and Monash University with sport partners Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability (ASAPD), Sporting Wheelies, Australian Sports Commission, City of Gold Coast, Tennis Australia, Water Polo Australia, Able Digital Wellness. The project has ethics approval (GU Ref No: 2025/030).

In 2026, Special Olympics Australia will celebrate 50 years of changing lives through sport, and we are incredibly proud to be part of this milestone event.

From 19–23 October, athletes from across the country will come together in Melbourne for the 2026 Special Olympics Australia National Games, competing across 12 sports at the iconic Albert Park sporting precinct. The Games are a celebration of courage, connection, achievement and inclusion, showcasing the power of sport to bring communities together.

Gold Coast Recreation and Sport is excited to have 10 of our own athletes representing the region on the national stage, supported by two of our staff members who will be attending as coaches.

We couldn't be prouder of their dedication, commitment and hard work leading into this incredible opportunity.

We wish all athletes the very best as they prepare to compete, connect and create lifelong memories at Australia's largest Special Olympics event.

We are excited to announce Professor Liz Franz as a keynote speaker for the 2032 Legacy in Motion Summit.

Professor Franz is a leading neuroscientist, researcher and international speaker specialising in brain health, skilled learning and neurological wellbeing. Her work explores how activities such as table tennis can positively impact cognitive function, confidence, social connection and overall wellbeing across all ages and abilities.

At the summit, Professor Franz will deliver an engaging presentation exploring the science behind movement, learning and brain health and how sport and skilled activities can support lifelong wellbeing.

Attendees will also have the unique opportunity to learn directly at the table tennis table from the master herself, experiencing firsthand how table tennis can be used as a powerful tool for connection, therapy, and enjoyment.

This summit is about more than listening to speakers. It is about bringing people together to learn, collaborate and help shape a stronger, more inclusive Gold Coast community leading into 2032 and beyond.

If you work in sport, health, education, recreation or community services this is a conversation worth being part of.

Tickets are just $47 (valued at $297), with all proceeds reinvested back into industry development, collaboration and connection across the Gold Coast.

What an incredible weekend at the Gold Coast Running Festival recently with some amazing achievements from our participants.

Jasmine set herself the goal of beating her 10km PB from 2024 and absolutely smashed it. With determination, grit and plenty of encouragement along the way, she finished in an incredible 1hr 26min, shaving 5 whole minutes off her previous best time. An outstanding effort that she should be so proud of.

Adam tackled the challenging Main Beach 30km event, crossing the line in a fantastic 3hr 41min, while Jackson, Gus, Zak and Calvin also put in brilliant performances in the Gold Coast 10km.
Thankyou to our staff Jake, Meg, Lee and Laurent who supported our participants throughout the day!

Huge congratulations to everyone involved!
