❤️ THIS IS WHY WE NEVER GIVE UP. THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO. ❤️

Today I received a message that brought tears to my eyes and reminded me why the Australian Anti Ice Campaign exists.

A beautiful mother reached out to share her family’s journey through 10 years of heartbreak, fear, pain and uncertainty as they watched their son struggle with ice addiction.

Their son ended up in prison. He wasn’t a bad person. He was a young man who became caught in the devastating grip of methamphetamine.

For ten long years, this mother and father held onto hope.

They never gave up on their son. And their son never gave up on himself.

Today, their story is one of hope and restoration. ❤️

Their son has found happiness, freedom from addiction and a beautiful, loving relationship with a partner who has also walked the difficult road of addiction.

And what he says now is absolutely beautiful:

“My new addiction is LOVE.” ❤️

But what touched my heart even more was something his mother shared about the Australian Anti Ice Campaign.

She said that through our videos, stories and education, we had become a silent but supportive friend during some of the darkest years of her life.

She wrote:

“You don’t have many friends that understand or won’t judge you when your child has been caught in the cobweb of drug use.”

And then these words:

“Your Anti Ice Campaign gave me so much information, hope, and a silent, but very supportive friend.”

Sometimes we don’t realise who is watching, who is listening, or whose life we are touching.

Sometimes the people we are helping are people we have never even met.

To every mother, father, husband, wife or family member silently fighting this battle — PLEASE DON’T LOSE HOPE.

Addiction does not have to be the end of someone’s story.

Recovery is possible. Families can heal. Lives can be restored.

And to this beautiful mum and dad, thank you for never giving up on your son. Thank you for allowing us to share your journey anonymously so that other families may find hope.

Your story is a powerful reminder that behind every addiction is a person worth fighting for, and behind that person is often a family praying for a miracle.

This is why we continue to fight for prevention, early intervention and pathways into recovery.

This is why the Australian Anti Ice Campaign exists.

PREVENTION STARTS WITH EDUCATION!

What an incredible opportunity for the Australian Anti Ice Campaign (AAIC) to visit Far North Queensland and share our Not Even Once prevention message with young people.

Across Mareeba State High School, Dimbulah High School and St Stephen's, our team delivered 13 workshops to approximately 894 students.

But behind those numbers are real young people, real questions and real conversations. ❤️

Students asked our lived-experience presenters powerful questions:

💬 How did you get clean?

💬 What made you start using drugs?

💬 How did you turn your life around?

Some students courageously shared how drugs have affected their families, friends and even their own lives.

This is why we do what we do.

When young people hear firsthand stories of addiction and recovery, they have an opportunity to understand the consequences of drug use before making choices that could change their lives forever.

We want every young person to know that their future matters, their choices matter, and there is always hope.

A heartfelt thank you to the principals, teachers and students who welcomed AAIC into their schools, and to our presenters who shared their lived experiences so openly.

Together, we are Creating Prevention. Restoring Lives. Strengthening Communities.

AAIC (Australian Anti Ice Campaign) are Educating and Raising Awareness of the dangers associated with the drug ICE, which is currently a growing epidemic in our nation.

Walk Against Ice 2026 is on Saturday 24 October at Nikiforides Family Park, Broadbeach.
It's a 2km community walk from 1:00 pm, with the day running 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. Live music, food, community activities and support services on site.
In partnership with Optimal Health Group, DACA and Drug Free Australia.
Events like this do two things at once. They raise visibility for prevention and early intervention, and they give families affected by ice a public space where the subject isn't something to be quiet about.
If your workplace, club or organisation would like to walk as a team, we'd be glad to have you. It's an easy, genuine way to show community support, and a good one to bring staff and families along to.
Not on the Gold Coast? You can still walk with us. Pick a route in your own area, walk it on the same day, and join the Gold Coast team virtually through our page. Tag us in your photos so we can follow along and share them.

Behind every community event are the people who arrive early to set up and stay late to pack down. Most of them never hold a microphone.

That’s a lot of what volunteering with AAIC is. Being there. A friendly face at the stall. A conversation that makes it easier for someone to ask the question they’ve been carrying around for weeks.

Prevention and early support often happen in small moments like that, long before anything reaches crisis point. We can’t be in every corner of the community on our own, so we’re looking for more people to help.

Recovery rarely starts with one big moment. More often it’s a text that gets answered. A dinner invite that keeps coming. A seat saved, again.

Australia’s national ice resource, Cracks in the Ice, says support and encouragement from family and friends play a key role in recovery. Most of that support is quiet. It happens in kitchens and car rides, long before anyone else notices a change.

One of their tips surprised us: hard conversations can feel easier side by side, like on a walk or a drive, than sitting face to face. Less pressure. More listening.

Thank you to the senior students in Cairns who welcomed Tanaiah into their classroom! 💙 Your questions, honesty and energy made the session.

Our school workshops are about getting in early. We give young people clear, evidence-based information about ice, the confidence to make their own choices, and the knowledge of where to turn for help, for themselves or a mate.

None of this happens without community partners who believe in prevention. A huge thank you to Andrew Ford and the team at Mareeba Toyota, and to Suncorp, for backing our school workshops yearly. Because of you, students hear the facts before the harm takes hold.
