Poverty doesn't affect everyone equally.

Women are more likely to experience housing stress, financial insecurity and poverty throughout their lives. The risk of poverty for single-parent families is three times higher than for couple-parent families, and nearly 60% of older women renters live below the poverty line.

Behind these statistics are women navigating rising housing costs, insecure work, unpaid caring responsibilities and financial barriers that can last well into retirement.

This Anti-Poverty Week, we're recognising the women behind the statistics and reaffirming our commitment to providing safe, secure and affordable housing that supports dignity, independence and opportunity. We urge governments at all levels to accelerate new social and affordable housing supply. Because everyone deserves a place to call home.

This beautiful mural will soon welcome WPI residents to this our most recent project, bringing colour, character and a sense of belonging to their new homes.

Painted by dedicated volunteer artists, including our Chief Commercial Officer, Lucy Simms, Philippa Consett and Tanya Gardiner, the mural reflects our belief that a home is about more than bricks and mortar. Thoughtfully designed shared spaces help create communities where people feel connected, comfortable and proud to live.

Featuring vibrant native flora and wildlife, the artwork brings a sense of calm and beauty to this urban setting and creates a warm, inviting arrival experience for residents. With 33 hidden ladybirds throughout the mural, we’re sure the children living here will have plenty of fun playing their own version of Where’s Wally!

The impact you make today can continue for generations.

Well-maintained homes support wellbeing, dignity and independence. These completed kitchen and bathroom upgrades on some of our older homes demonstrate the value of planned maintenance in preserving quality housing for women in our community. Today is Equal Pay Day.

Equal Pay Day marks the extra time women in Australia need to work, on average, to earn what men earned in the previous financial year.

While equal pay for equal work has been law in Australia for decades, the gender pay gap is different. It reflects the difference between the average earnings of women and men across the workforce.

In 2026, Equal Pay Day falls 48 days into the new financial year, two days earlier than last year. This is a sign of progress, but it also highlights that gender-based differences in earnings remain a reality in many Australian workplaces.

Australia's gender pay gap is influenced by several factors, including unequal caring responsibilities, gender segregation across occupations and industries, lower representation of women in senior leadership roles and barriers to career progression and workforce participation.

Understanding and addressing these challenges is critical to advancing economic equality, strengthening workforce participation, improving long-term financial security, and increasing women's access to affordable housing.

During Homelessness Week, out team paused to reflect on what home means to them. Of course it is safety, security, shelter and warmth. But it is much more. Meaningful participation in society is next to impossible without access to stable housing. It is a foundation for happy and healthy lives.

Our team folded origami houses in support of the Victorian Homelessness Network in raising awareness of the 60,000 additional social homes needed to meet current demand in Victoria. Many of those on the waiting list are women and their children who face significant disadvantage in their access to secure and affordable homes.

Homes end homelessness. We need more.

More than 28,000 Victorian households already benefit from community housing. But with more than 57,000 families still waiting for a safe, affordable home, we urgently need to build more.

Frames are up for two family homes in Melbourne's outer South Eastern growth corridor. With construction by SJD Homes, WPI is once again incredibly grateful to the The Victorian Homeless Fund, who have raised the funds and are delivering these two homes for women and children who have experienced family violence. These well located, family friendly homes will provide a stable foundation to heal and rebuild.

It was great to visit Arkit - Advanced Prefabricated Architecture this morning with members of our team and some of our key donors. We were thrilled to see the modular construction in progress for an upcoming project. This exciting modular technology will provide valuable time savings, leading to the delivery of these homes more quickly and efficiently.

WPI is thrilled to share that we will be the recipient of a parcel of land within Stockland's Starling Road community - an outstanding development that will provide a wonderful setting for a future permanent home for a woman and her children.

Construction of the home is planned for the first half of next year, bringing us one step closer to delivering the first 15 homes of our 100 new homes for women campaign.

Our sincere thanks to the team at Stockland for this extraordinarily generous contribution and for partnering with us to create lasting housing security for Victorian women.

Stay tuned - this is the first of many exciting announcements as we continue to grow our pipeline of permanent homes.
