Hawkesbury's Helping Hands

Hawkesbury's Helping Hands The Little Charity that Could. Helping you, help others.

For over 13 years, Hawkesbury's Helping Hands Inc has supported those experiencing homelessness or at-risk homelessness and the working poor. Started in 2011 by 8 year old Cassidy Strickland and her mother Linda after Cassidy noticed someone rummaging for food in a bin, Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands has grown from serving meals in the park to its current location in South Windsor. Serving over 1 mill

ion meals to date, Linda and Cassidy continue to help those in need by providing love, care, kindness, food, toiletries, clothing, shoes, blankets, sleeping bags, tents, swags, pet supplies also advice on services available and if possible, support with accommodation. Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands provides disaster relief and significantly supported the community during the last 8 floods, fires, drought and Covid. Our services include free community meals that are served Saturday and Sunday, one-off emergency hampers for Hawkesbury residents and a drop in hub Wednesday to Friday 10 am – 1 pm where those in need can come for a shower, a cuppa, have a bite to eat and use our free Wi-Fi. We also have a free Technology Hub for those needing access to computers on Wednesday thru Friday 10am to 1pm. Since 2012 HHH have hosted a Christmas Day lunch with no strings, no questions and no judgement, for anyone who may find themselves alone on that day!! We also work alongside and support many other charities and organisations, and work closely with numerous agencies, who often refer their clients to us.

Perishable food is one of the hardest things to organise, store correctly, and distribute safely.
There are huge costs involved — cool rooms, Arctic freezers, the outrageous electricity bills to keep them running, rent, insurances, van costs, fuel, maintenance, and everything else that comes with collecting, storing, and moving multiple tonnes of food each week.
A lot of people don’t realise that food can’t simply be piled up “somewhere” until it’s needed. It has to be stored properly at all times, handled safely, and moved quickly. That all comes with very real overheads for an unfunded, volunteer-powered charity like ours.
While we would absolutely love to give everything away for free, the reality is that we also purchase a lot of the food ourselves to make sure people receive a decent hamper each week.
What we can say proudly is this: from all the feedback we receive, our hampers are well worth the $25.
For that small contribution:
❤️ your hamper is guaranteed
❤️ there’s no needing to plead your case or be “approved”
❤️ you don't have to ask to be considered, in the hope you will and be selected.
❤️ no turning up hoping there might be something left
❤️ no judgement
❤️ and no one leaves empty-handed
We have never run out of food on hamper day. If you make the effort to come, food will be there for you.
That matters deeply to us.

No one should ever have to walk this path alone. ❤️
Sometimes, we think changing the world requires grand gestures, massive donations, or monumental shifts. But the truth? The most profound changes happen in the quiet, everyday moments.
It’s in a warm smile to a stranger.
It’s in taking five minutes to check on a neighbor.
It’s in listening without judgment.
Every single person deserves to live with dignity, to feel valued, and to know they are a cherished part of a wider community. When we extend a helping hand—no matter how small that hand might seem—we forge a vital human connection that can completely turn someone's day, or even life, around.
✨ Small Acts, Big Impact
You don't need a lot of time or resources to make a difference today. Here is how you can bring kindness into your everyday routine:
The Power of Hello: A simple, genuine "How are you?" can be a lifeline to someone feeling isolated.
A Moment of Patience: Choosing grace over frustration in a busy world reminds others they matter.
Community Connection: Sharing our page, volunteering an hour, or donating a small item helps us build a safety net where no one gets left behind.
"Kindness is a passport that opens doors and fashions friends. It softens hearts and molds relationships that can last lifetimes."
We are all connected. By choosing kindness and prioritizing the dignity of those around us, we ensure that our community remains a place of hope and belonging.

A huge thank you to MEA ❤️ for their continued support and incredible community partnership!
This morning, we picked up 5 pallets of chips and noodles — all hand-loaded in the rain! 🌧️💪
The van fits a whole lot more when everything is packed by hand. It’s definitely a lot of extra work, but it also means more goodies reaching the people who need them most.
And the hustle doesn’t stop there… we have to hand unload it all, and get back on the road again for another pickup! 🚚💨
What many people don’t always see is that we are constantly on the go — loading, unloading, sorting and doing whatever we can to help more people in our community every single week.
We truly couldn’t do what we do without the support of amazing partners like MEA. Thank you for standing beside us and helping make a real difference. 🙌✨

Sometimes the world can feel heavy, but every single week we are reminded that kindness still lives here. ❤️
We see it in the volunteers who stay back long after the day is done.
In the quiet donations left without recognition.
In the shared meals, friendly smiles and genuine conversations.
In strangers becoming friends and people walking through our doors feeling seen, welcomed and valued.
Community is not built only through grand gestures — it is built through ordinary people showing up for one another with compassion, dignity and heart.
In a world that can sometimes feel disconnected, these moments matter more than ever. Together, we are nourishing more than just empty stomachs — we are nourishing connection, hope, belonging and reminding people they are not alone. 🫶
Thank you to every volunteer, supporter, donor and guest who helps make this community what it is.
This is what kindness looks like.
This is what community looks like. ❤️
