Get Ready for Severe Weather Season — Saturday 17 October, 10am–12pm, CGA
The Bureau of Meteorology, DFES, Department of Communities, Australian Red Cross and the Shire of Carnarvon are setting up at CGA for a casual morning — food on, fire truck out the front, no speeches.

Come for a chat and leave with:

✅ The Emergency WA and BoM apps set up on your phone — bring it, they'll do it with you
✅ A straight answer on who warns you about what — BoM tells you what's coming, DFES tells you what to do
✅ Where to go and who to call when the river's on its way
✅ Recovery support on hand too — Rural Aid and the shire

Community Recovery team will be there if you want help with your Narelle grant!
After Narelle, plenty of us have questions about how the warnings worked. They want to hear it — bring your questions and your feedback.

🚜 This Saturday at CGA — meet the Farm Angels. Coffee & cake on us.

A convoy of old 40 Series Landcruisers is driving Perth to Exmouth this week to back regional farmers — and they're stopping at CGA this Saturday 10 October, 10am–12pm.

They're raising money for Farm Angels, a national charity that exists for exactly what our growers have been through this year. Farm Angels give:

✅ Direct financial help — discreet prepaid cards, no government paperwork
✅ Hampers and care packs for farming families
✅ Angels on the Phone — someone from the land to talk to, any time
✅ On-farm visits when things are tough

They've helped nearly 10,000 primary producers across Australia. They want to meet Carnarvon growers face to face, hear what Narelle did to you, and tell you how to register for support.

No speeches, no forms. Come for a coffee, say g'day, and leave with a contact that's there for you long after the convoy's gone.

New testing is being done to help eradicate an invasive species which has been described as "blow torching" Carnarvon's produce.

Chilli thrips are causing significant losses across the country, but especially inside the state's food bowl.

Carnarvon Growers Association agronomist Rachel Thomson said the population growth has begun to accelerate because Carnarvon has the perfect warm and dry conditions the thrips need to thrive.

"We're working with DPIRD and collecting samples from various affected crops just to get an official ID and hopefully we can get some resistant testing done on them, so we know what is going to work," Ms Thomson said.

"We suspect we've got chemical resistance but without measuring that, we're sort of it in the dark."

She encouraged growers to drop into next week's free agronomy session at the CGA which will be focussed on fighting the pest.
