It's official - the ‘presumptive cancers’ legislation passed through Parliament today! RFSA has been a strong voice advocating for this reform and we're so pleased with this result.

The ‘presumptive cancers’ legislation makes NSW the first jurisdiction in Australia to include two additional female reproductive cancers - vaginal and vulval - as presumptive cancers.

Volunteer firefighters lodging a claim for a cancer on the expanded list will no longer have to prove it was caused by firefighting, which can be incredibly difficult due to the complex nature of how cancer develops.

Under the changes, firefighters’ presumptive access to compensation has been expanded to cover ten additional cancers: primary site lung, pancreatic, thyroid and skin cancers, and female and male reproductive cancers including cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal, vulval and pe**le.
