This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we had a chat with Nicole about her diagnosis, treatment, and the importance of connecting with other people who truly understand what it’s like to live with cancer.

Nicole is a speaker, holistic wellness mentor, meditation teacher and author of 'What a S**t Show!'. In this short video, she reminds us that despite common perception, bowel cancer affects many young people and women too.

Watch the video to hear more about Nicole’s experience, the power of peer support, and why listening to our bodies matters. You can also check out her book via her website to learn more about her story 👉 www.nicoletrimboli.com.au

June is Pride Month! This is what truly affirming care looks like: listening, believing, using inclusive language, respecting lived experience and making sure people can access support without fear or stigma.

We’re proud to stand with LGBTIQA+ communities and continue advocating for health systems that are inclusive by design - during Pride Month and all year round!

Abortion is healthcare. It is not a matter for debate in healthcare settings, in the media or in parliaments.

Access to all healthcare, including abortion, should not depend on your postcode, income, age or cultural background.

Legal restrictions and misinformation do not stop people needing abortions. They make safe care harder to find and more expensive. WHV and 1800 My Options has always and will always work to protect, maintain and uphold everyone’s right to healthcare.

Swipe through for evidence-based facts that challenge stigma, cut through misinformation, and show why abortion access must be protected.

A reminder that support is available

Our Endometriosis and pelvic surgery concerns line is here for former patients of Dr Simon Gordon.

● talk to someone who is safe, respectful and non-judgemental

Join our Counterpart team!

Want to use your skills to support women and gender diverse people living with cancer across Victoria?

We currently have two opportunities to join the Counterpart team:

Peer Support Lead - for someone with strong service design and stakeholder engagement skills, and a passion for building innovative, equitable programs.

Volunteer and Data Coordinator - for someone who enjoys working with people and using data to strengthen services, support volunteers and drive continuous improvement.

Both roles are part of a team creating meaningful, high-quality peer support for women and gender diverse people affected by cancer.

If that sounds like you - or someone you know - we’d love to hear from you!

For more information about both roles and how to apply, visit: https://www.whv.org.au/get-involved/work-with-us/

We recently reached 50,000 calls to 1800 My Options!

That’s 50,000 times someone has turned to us for clear, confidential and pro-choice information about contraception, abortion and sexual health.

We’re proud to mark this milestone, and even prouder of what it stands for.

At a time when we’re seeing renewed attempts to wind back access to safe abortion care across the country, our work continues. We directly see the impact of the dangerous politicisation of reproductive rights – stigma, obstruction and distress for women trying to access essential healthcare.

1800 My Options and Women’s Health Victoria are committed to helping people find the care they need, and our ongoing work to protect progress and ensure access to fundamental health rights.

To everyone who has contacted 1800 My Options, thank you for trusting us. And to our team and partner services across Victoria, thank you for providing people with the care they need.

If you've had anything to do with Counterpart in the past 20 years, there's a good chance you've spent some time with one or both of these legends.

Katherine and Kellie.

After decades of thoughtful and generous commitment to the peer support service for women with cancer, in coming days we farewell these two incredible women as they move on to new adventures.

Under their leadership, the number of women we reach each year has grown, the number of volunteers who've joined us has grown, and our admiration for their work has grown.

As a result of their work, Counterpart will continue to go from strength to strength, but they can never be replaced.

Katherine and Kellie, thank you for everything and go well. ❤️

We call our group of Counterpart volunteers a constellation... Because they're all stars!

It's National Volunteer Week which is a great excuse for us to celebrate the incredible people who give their care, compassion and kindness to Counterpart.

So far this year our volunteers have helped guide our research on gender equity in cancer care, and they've also
- connected with more than 490 people at our events, in-hospital activities, and one-to-one support sessions
- provided 950 instances of support.

For more than 20 years, Counterpart volunteers have been a crucial support to women with cancer and we can't thank them enough.

Happy National Volunteer Week!
