It's International Youth Day, and young workers play a massive role in our union. When you stand together, you win. Here's some examples of how we're helping young workers:

💸 Adult Age = Adult Wage: we won our case to scrap junior rates for 18 to 20 year olds.

⏰ Payday Super: your super now gets paid with your wages, not every few months, so it grows sooner and it's easier to spot if any goes missing. For young workers this means thousands more at retirement!

📈 Super on Every Dollar: we're pushing to get under 18s paid super no matter how many hours they work. The government has committed now too. It's not law yet, but a big step in the right direction.

Retail work is getting harder, and it's taking a toll.

Understaffing, excessive workloads and customer abuse are real hazards facing retail workers across Australia. The SDA surveyed over 11,000 retail workers for our Under Pressure report, and the findings are serious:

77% are at high risk of harm, 72% are experiencing burnout, and 49% intend to resign.

How it started vs how it's going 💙

Over 10 years ago, SDA members packed the room demanding 100% pay at 18, and right there with us was Peter Malinauskas, who was Secretary of SDA SA at the time, backing young workers and leading our campaign to secure equal pay for retail workers aged 18-20.

Fast forward to last week and now he's the South Australian Premier, joining SDA Organisers from across the country to celebrate the win we've all been fighting for. Adult Age = Adult Wage! 🎉
