No one size fits all ….

"Before Parkinson's, I had never experienced the feeling of sharing and listening with my heart and knowing that each of us—whether a patient, caregiver, family member, therapist, doctor, friend, social worker, pharmaceutical rep, life partner, the list goes on—is so loving, respectful, and aware of the fact that PD is a unique and individual journey, not a one-size-fits-all disease. We share and learn together as a community. This disease is indeed a heartless and cruel monster. The gift is that we pull each other through."

My Dear Parkinson’s family and friends,
Today a contribution from a member of our amazing community, Valerie, has inspired me.
Today, Valerie, you have reminded me of one of the reasons I feel fortunate to have been selected to join this elite and so so special group ; those of us living with PD .
Your poignant words touched me and brought a surprising, tiny tear :
“Given that it’s often easier to talk to stranger than it is to family and friends,I just want to make a confession or maybe just an observation, I’m not sure.
A few days ago I saw a woman on TV walking along a beach. She didn’t have to thinkst
about it, she just walked, one foot automatically in front of the other.
Suddenly, and unusually I felt so sad that I may never be able to do that again.
I can walk but every step is exhausting.
So, I’ll just keep getting exhausted I suppose, you gotta keep fighting.
And I will!”
Valery, you are an inspiration to us all! Like so many living with this illness, you display a courage and a resilience that transcends what many ever have to face to do those simple daily tasks that the rest of the world takes for granted. You do this in such an accepting and “It’s no big deal“, unassuming way. Many would be unaware of the depth of your battle, not just a brief battle, but an ongoing one you face every day!
This battle would test many trained and seasoned fighters, but you continue to display endurance and persistence as well as grace as you accept your “lot” and simply continue to fight.
Valery , you demonstrate that
“Courage isn't only fighting your circumstances;
sometimes making peace with circumstances requires more courage.
- Sonali Dev”

It may be a little scary but have no fear .
“Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you; they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.” ~Bernice Reagan Johnson
In fact as you find yourself my wish is that you meet a new BFF (best friends forever); YOU!

May all you who fight to take every single step, find a path of great beauty as you discover more about yourself and learn to adapt to the many challenges and changes that you face. You are champions all ! I feel privileged to be a part of this group .

The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.”
