Well that’s Track Opening 2024 done. Thanks to all the usual suspects who donate their time and fuel to the efforts. Also thanks to Geelong 4x4 Club for helping.

Many dont realise it, but it isn’t parks vic who reopen the seasonally (kings birthday to Melbourne cup ) closed tracks each year, it is the Four Wheel Drive Victoria affiliated clubs like us, Geelong, Otways & Warrnambool, who unlock and clear them. And not car width either, as lots are fire breaks, so tree line to tree line.

This year we even had one Kennett River Local stop to thank us for doing it, which was nice!!

Bring on 2025, hopefully with less large trees.

The Bellarine 4x4 Club held its annual Christmas Party this weekend. As usual, our hosts Otways Tourist Park did a great job and the catering was spot on.

Lots of planning goes into making the weekend enjoyable for everyone. To those that ran trips on the Saturday, thankyou, lots of fun was had, plenty of memories made and stories to be told. Of course we had a visitor for the kiddies on Saturday afternoon, thankyou for taking time out of your busy schedule this time of year to stop by.

The evening was most enjoyable with a fantastic meal, and music by John-Luke Shelley

Thankyou to the organizers of our Sunday Navigation Monopoly Event, Gary, Nick and crew for the massive amount of work that went into putting on this event. A lot of fun was had by all, even those that were unable to locate all of the secret spots!

And to everyone that helped in any way, no matter how big or small, from cutting wood, cleaning up, helping out with any of the many moving parts, thankyou from all of us.

A big thanks to the Otways Tourist Park for the excellent facilities in spite of the recent wet weather, and for the excellent catering, and being all round awesome hosts.

At our meeting on Thursday night, our friends Parks Victoria, came along to talk to us about an emerging issue in Victoria, the Phytophthora dieback disease.

The disease, Phytophthora dieback, is often difficult to detect and can cause permanent damage to ecosystems and landscapes before it is identified

Effective management is essential to minimize the risk of dieback spread. In most cases, removing all mud and soil from footwear, vehicles, machinery and equipment minimizes the risk of spreading Phytophthora.

We encourage anyone that is a regular user of our wonderful state and national parks to familiarize themselves with mitigation strategies, and to join us in attempting to stop the spread of Phytophthora, before the landscapes of our parks are vastly different to what they are now.

It is in all of our interests, to stop the spread, to ensure that we can all continue to enjoy our National and State Parks.
