🏆 Nominations Open – Leigh Higgins Community Service Award

BICA is seeking nominations for the Leigh Higgins Community Service Award, recognising someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the Bruny Island community.

We all know those people who quietly give their time, lend a hand, support others and help make Bruny the community we love, often without expecting any recognition in return.

This is an opportunity to say thank you.

If you know someone deserving of recognition, we would love to hear from you.

Please send BICA the name of your nominee and a few words about their contribution to the Bruny Island community.

The award will be presented at the BICA AGM on Sunday 11 October at Adventure Bay.

💚 Help us recognise one of Bruny’s wonderful community contributors.

Leigh Higgins Award The Leigh Higgins Community Service Award was established in 2021 by the Bruny Island Community Association (BICA) to honour the exceptional career and commitment Leigh has made to his community over his 60 plus years of service. BICA are now accepting

Vale Irene Hill

BICA is saddened to hear of the passing of long-time Bruny Island resident and CWA member, Irene Hill. Irene was a wonderful and long-standing supporter of the Bruny Island Easter Carnival, whether contributing in her own right or alongside her fellow CWA members. Her support over so many years was part of the community spirit that has kept this much-loved Bruny tradition going.
Our sincere condolences go to Irene’s family, friends and her Bruny Island CWA family.
Thank you, Irene, for everything you gave to our little island community. You will be fondly remembered. 💚

The Bruny Island CWA sadly announce the passing of long time member, Irene Hill. Irene was a member for over 50 years, enjoying particular success with her handcrafts. The Bruny CWA will think of Irene as they serve the spread at the Adventure Bay Hall following the graveside service at Adventure Bay Cemetery.

💚 Thank you, Bruny!

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s BICA Community Meeting at Alonnah Hall. It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout and so many people taking the time to be part of the conversation about our island and its future.

A special thank you to the Councillors and Council candidates who attended, listened to the issues raised and stayed to continue conversations with our community over lunch.

It was also wonderful to welcome back retired Councillor David Grace and his wife Jenni. David has always been a strong advocate for Bruny Island and someone who was never afraid to stand up for our community, so it was particularly lovely to have them both join us.

Thank you also to everyone who contributed to our community lunch and helped make the day such a success. 💚

📰 Council candidates are invited to submit a short contribution for the September edition of Bruny News, giving our community another opportunity to hear from those seeking to represent us.

Community is at the heart of BICA, and yesterday was a wonderful example of it in action.🌿

🌱 Calling All Bruny Island Volunteer Organisations!

Does your organisation rely on volunteers?

The Bruny Island Community Association (BICA) is exploring the idea of hosting a Volunteer Expo in September at Alonnah, bringing together the many volunteer organisations that make our island such a wonderful place to live 🏡

The aim is simple: to give Islanders who may be interested in volunteering the opportunity to meet a range of organisations, learn what they do, and find a volunteer role that suits their interests and availability.

Whether your organisation is involved in:
🚑 Emergency Services
🌿 Environment & Conservation
🤝 Community Services
🎨 Arts & Culture
🎶 Music & Events
⚽ Sport & Recreation
📚 Education & Heritage
🐾 Animal Welfare
…or any other volunteer-driven activity, we’d love to hear from you.

At this stage, we’re gauging interest to see whether there is enough support to make the event happen.

Is your organisation / club interested in participating?

If so, please send an expression of interest to:

📧 [email protected]

Together, let’s showcase the incredible volunteer opportunities available on Bruny Island and help connect more people with the organisations that keep our community thriving.
