Don't miss out on the headlines from Dalby. Followed categories will be added to My News.

Western Downs Regional Council workers have continued to engage in the longest strike action in the region’s history.

The joint industrial action, led by members of the Australian Workers Union and The Services Union, occurred at noon on Thursday after members felt council hadn’t come to the table.

The Services Union senior organiser John Denny said that while some people in council and the community may think union officials haven’t agreed to negotiations, it was ultimately up to the workers to continue to fight.

“It’s the workers on the ground who are members of relevant unions that decide on what they will accept and what they won’t,” Mr Denny said.

✊ Today, TSU members employed by Western Downs Regional Council took protected industrial action and rallied in Dalby to demand a fair wage outcome.

Our members have had enough of being left behind while the cost of living continues to soar. They stood together to send a clear message to Council: workers deserve fair pay, respect and recognition for the essential services they provide every day.

We're proud of every member who took a stand today. 💪

🚨 WDRC WORKERS TAKE FURTHER INDUSTRIAL ACTION 🚨

Members of The Services Union and the Australian Workers' Union - Queensland Branch are standing together today to send a clear message to Western Downs Regional Council: workers deserve a fair wage outcome. ✊

From midday today, union members will stop work and rally in Dalby as frustration grows over Council's continued failure to resolve this dispute.

💰 While the cost of groceries, housing, fuel and everyday essentials keeps rising, Council workers are still waiting for a wage offer that helps them keep pace with the cost of living.

Despite multiple hearings before the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, Council management and elected officials continue to drag their feet, leaving hardworking local government employees in limbo.

These workers keep communities running every day. They deserve respect, recognition and fair pay.

📢 Stand with WDRC workers as they fight for a fair deal and post a solidarity comment in the comments below! 💪

📢 TSU stood strong for City of Gold Coast workers at last week's Certified Agreement negotiations.

We firmly rejected the vast majority of Council’s disappointing "Log of Shame" claims, agreeing only to a small number of standard bargaining items relating to clause redrafting, health & wellbeing, and future claims. ❌

TSU made it clear: workers should not be losing conditions, especially when CoGC employees are already among the lower-paid council workers in Queensland and the Council continues to report a strong financial position. 💪

We also challenged Council's push to remove the 10-day fortnight, questioning claims of "equity issues" when it has worked successfully for over 20 years. 🤔
Council should stop attacking conditions and focus on what workers deserve: job security, fairness, and a reasonable wage increase. ✊

The next bargaining meeting is on 24 June, where Council will respond to TSU's claims.

✊ The Services Union stands with WDRC workers in the fight for a fair wage outcome that helps ease cost-of-living pressures.🏡

Despite repeated hearings, Council and Elected Officials of WDRC continue to delay addressing workers' concerns while wages and conditions fall further behind other councils. WDRC workers deserve better.

Last week, members were asked if they support further industrial action — and the answer was a resounding YES. ✅
