When we uplift women, we raise the standard for the next generation of changemakers, and last week's celebration of women in paediatric research embodied that philosophy tenfold.

In partnership with Dissh and Lucy Henry-Hicks, we announced the 2026 Mary McConnel Grant recipients, taking a moment to recognise the impact these grants will have on the health of Queensland children and families for decades to come.

This year’s recipients are three outstanding female researchers, Dr Kriti Joshi, Dr Miriam Cameron and Claire Reilly, whose work spans Type 1 diabetes, respiratory medicine and tube-feeding research.

The Mary McConnel Career Boost Program gives women the agency to turn support into impact, offering up to $50,000 to use however helps them thrive, including childcare, research time, professional development, whatever moves their incredible work forward.

Join us in celebrating these trailblazing women in the comments below.👏

For hundreds of kids in hospital, Ekka is off limits not because they don't want to go, but because treatment and immunocompromised immune systems make it too risky.

While their friends line up for showbags and strawberry sundaes, these children are bored and stuck in hospital rooms. 💚

We transformed the hospital into a full Ekka party, so that even kids who can't leave hospital can feel like a kid at the Ekka. 🤗

"Myah's Toy Trolley" represents an indescribable journey of resilience, hope, and community - we are beyond humbled to launch it in the Oncology Ward. 🧸

This special trolley was funded by, and named in honour of, 10-year-old Myah, who was diagnosed with an ovarian germ cell tumour at just nine years old, an extremely rare condition for a child her age.

Despite facing such a difficult diagnosis and undergoing intensive treatment, Myah showed remarkable compassion, raising $22,500 to help other children facing the unimaginable. 💚

With her best friends and younger brother, she hosted a lemonade stand on her neighbourhood street. The funds raised will now support "Myah's Toy Trolley" and keep it stocked with toys, books and crafts, for other children on the ward for years to come.

"I hope with this toy trolley that kids going through treatment will feel brave, loved and a little less afraid. I just want to see as many people smile as possible,” Myah, now cancer-free. 🤗
