CRU - Community Resource Unit Ltd. CRU exists to create & promote positive change so that people with disabilities can belong to & actively contribute to social & economic life.

CRU believes that people with disabilities should belong to and participate in community life. This means their interests are best served when they are supported to grow up in a family, go to school at their local neighbourhood school, participate in community activities with their peers, have a home of their own, maintain strong relationships with friends, parents and siblings, work and participate in community life and have their rights as citizens protected.

Coming to Cairns!
Introduction to Sensory Awareness and Movement Differences is a highly interactive workshop presented by CRU & Joyce-Lyn Smith. It’s filled with real-life examples and practical information and strategies to build understanding when managing sensory differences and challenges.

The workshop can be particularly useful for Autistic people and those living with neurological differences and other people with disabilities, family members and supporters.

Understanding the uniqueness of our own sensory and movement differences and how they might impact us can be key to paving a way to thriving at school, work, or in friendships and relationships.

A Vision is a powerful tool that helps people with disability and their families get what others often take for granted: a good life. Having a vision lets us take control and be clear about the direction we are heading, and influences our imaginations and sense of what is possible.

If you are a person with disability or a family member, come along to our August and September peer discussions, facilitated by parent and CRU Facilitator Diana Kerr. Whether you don’t know where to start or are revisiting an existing Vison, come along for inspiration, information, examples and tools on the purpose and power of a positive vision. You will feel supported in the process, share ideas and support others.

Sunshine Coast, everyone can work! Having a job is an important part of a good life. It allows us to earn a living, meet people, use our skills and learn new ones.

This interactive workshop is for people with disability who want to work in open employment but have found that the traditional pathways don’t always lead to the jobs you want.

Come along to get started in working out what sort of job would be right for you, and learn about different ways to work towards it, even if it means creating a job yourself.

‘What will happen in the future when I am no longer here or unable to do what I am currently doing?’ is a question that can keep families of all ages awake at night.

We know that we need to plan for the future, but it is such a daunting prospect, that we often put our heads in the sand and leave it for another day. However, the future starts now, and it is never too early to plan as we never know what is around the corner. Better to do the work now and be prepared while you still have the capacity!

This new, practical workshop is designed to motivate and help you to take practical steps towards ensuring a good life will continue in the future.
