Vinnies QLD

Vinnies QLD The Society aspires to be recognised as a caring Catholic charity offering “a hand up” to people in need. https://linkstre.am/vinniesqld

We do this by respecting their dignity, sharing our hope, and encouraging them to take control of their own destiny. Vinnies offers a hand up to all people in need. The St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland helps all people in need through a number of ways, giving them a hand up to make life changing decisions. The type of support delivered differs from region to region, but our members and volunt

eers remain central to the good works undertaken by the Society. They are the driving force that connects people in need to our support services and programs. Here at Vinnies QLD our services include,
child & family support, disability support, drug & alcohol rehabilitation, emergency & transitional accommodation, emergency relief, food distribution, housing & homelessness, migrants & refugee support, youth support, budgeting & finance

Mud, teamwork and a few comfort zones left behind 💙

A few weeks ago, participants from across North Queensland and South East Queensland came together at Emu Gully to kick off the Vinnies Youth QLD 2026 Ozanam Leadership Program.

Designed to equip and empower young people to become compassionate servant leaders in their communities, the six-month program began with a three-day retreat focused on teamwork, problem-solving, resilience and personal growth.

From tackling challenges together to discovering that leadership isn't always about being the loudest voice in the room, participants spent the retreat building the foundations for the journey ahead.

Have a look at how the weekend unfolded 👇💙

Hi 👋 My name is Mike, and I’m a team member at St Vincent de Paul Society QLD (Vinnies QLD).

Every day, I see people like David* being pushed into homelessness and poverty by one sudden crisis.

When David first walked through our doors, he’d been sleeping rough.

He told me how quickly everything changed.

He’d had steady work. A home he’d lived in for 15 years.

Then the work dried up… and within months, he couldn’t afford the rent.

“I couldn’t believe how quickly it happened,” he said.

That’s what stays with me. Because I see it every day.

People who never thought they’d need help… suddenly asking where they’ll sleep. Or when they’ll eat next.

At Vinnies QLD, we do everything we can to be there. Providing food, clothing, emergency accommodation, and ongoing support to help people rebuild their lives.

But more people are turning to us than ever before.

Will you please give today to help us be there for the growing number of Queenslanders turning to us for help?

Your support helps us respond when someone walks through our doors with nowhere else to go.

An $81 donation can provide a food hamper for someone doing it tough this winter.

10,511 families are currently waiting for social housing in Queensland.

At a time when many families are feeling the pressure of rising housing costs and cost-of-living challenges, access to safe and stable housing has never been more important.

A secure home provides the foundation for children and families to feel supported, connected and able to focus on what matters most.

That's why we support conversations and initiatives that help shine a light on the challenges facing Queensland families and the importance of long-term solutions.

Please join us in welcoming Peter Dougherty as the new State President of the St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland 💙

Commencing in the role today, Peter brings nearly 30 years of dedication, leadership and service to the Society, alongside a deep commitment to supporting Queenslanders experiencing hardship.

Prior to becoming State President, Peter served as Rockhampton Diocesan President and has played an important role in strengthening communities through the Society’s mission and Good Works.

As he steps into this new chapter of leadership, Peter has reaffirmed his focus on supporting Members, Volunteers and Employees across the state as they continue responding to the growing challenges facing Queensland communities, including housing insecurity and cost-of-living pressures.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Trish McMahon for her leadership and dedication over the past four years as our first female State President in Queensland.

Please join us in congratulating Peter on his appointment 👏🏻

We need your URGENT help! Please SHARE this post to reach more people 🚨

Fuel prices are skyrocketing.
Rental costs are rising.
And groceries are going up every week.

Right now, 1 in 5 Australian households have less than $100 in savings (1). It only takes one sudden crisis to change everything.

Here at St Vincent de Paul Society QLD (Vinnies QLD), we’re doing everything we can to be there…

Providing food, clothing, emergency accommodation, and support to help Queenslanders rebuild their lives.

But demand for our services is rising fast. We really need YOUR help this Winter.

It only takes $81 to provide a food hamper packed with essentials like long-life milk, flour and pasta to a Queenslander in need.

And even a small gift can help.

Your tax-deductible gift can help make sure someone has food on the table, and a roof over their head.

You have the opportunity to do something amazing tonight. It will be the best thing you have done this week.

Can you answer the call of someone doing it tough? 💙

As we come to the close of Trish McMahon’s term as State President of the St Vincent de Paul Society QLD, we thank her for four years of dedicated leadership, compassion and unwavering commitment to our mission 💙

As the Society’s first female State President in Queensland’s 130+ year history, Trish has led through a period of significant challenge and change with calmness, strength and care for both our communities and our Members.

Her leadership has helped guide the Society through growing housing and cost-of-living pressures while continuing to strengthen the support we provide to Queenslanders in need.

Thank you, Trish, for your service, advocacy and the lasting impact you have made across our Society and communities throughout Queensland. You'll be missed! 💙

Sometimes, the most powerful part of this work is simply making someone feel seen, heard and cared for 💙

Behind every Housing and Homelessness Service are people who genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of others, helping Queenslanders move from crisis and uncertainty toward stability, connection and hope for the future.

For many of the Employees working in this space, the impact goes both ways. Through the relationships they build and the journeys they walk alongside, this work can be deeply meaningful and personally transformative.

As we wrap up this month’s Program Spotlight, we wanted to shine a light on some of the incredible people behind these services and the care they bring to their roles every day.

If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, housing stress or needs support, please contact us on 1800 846 643 or visit our website to learn more about the services available across Queensland.

More updates on Mackay 💙🏗️

Our Mackay development continues to move forward, with the project now reaching lock up stage as the vision behind the build starts to fully come to life.

Designed as a multi-use development, the site will combine community housing with wrap-around support services, helping people not only access safe housing, but also the support needed to rebuild stability and independence.

Part of our 500 Homes initiative, this development reflects our commitment to delivering practical, lasting solutions to housing insecurity in Queensland.

Made possible through funding from the Queensland Government, in partnership with participating mineral resources industry parties, the Queensland Resources Council and its members, and in association with St Vincent de Paul Society Queensland, this project represents an important investment in the future of this community 💙

Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week 2026.

This year’s theme, All In for Reconciliation, is a reminder that reconciliation is something we must actively commit to every day, through listening, learning and walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with respect and trust.

As St Vincent de Paul Society National President Mark Gaetani shared:
“Reconciliation is not a one-week effort. It’s something we need to commit to every day, in how we listen, how we support one another, and how we work together for a fairer, more just and more compassionate Australia for all of us.”

At St Vincent de Paul Society QLD, we recognise the importance of supporting community-led solutions and creating space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, perspectives and leadership 💙💛🖤❤️
