CGQ is the first supportive, affordable, and permanent housing project in Queensland. In 2012, we began to provide homes; we have a record of proven success with ten years of experience in serving former rough sleepers and low-income individuals and families. Therefore, we provide safe and supportive homes for the vulnerable, such as domestic violence survivors and formerly rough sleepers. In 2021

, we provided homes for 316 people, including 59 children, within our three main programs: Brisbane Common Ground, Supportive housing for families, and Asylum-seeking individuals and families. The positive impact of CGQ’s efforts in 2021 is embodied in a high tenancy sustainment rate of 85%. Moreover, some of our tenants significantly recovered from their previous hardships and embarked on a new life path: They obtained employment and reintegrated into the local community by developing social bonds. We hear the word ‘Wraparound Support’ being used a lot when talking about Supportive Housing. What does it actually mean?

🔹Support is never forced on tenants.

🔹Tenants choose when and how often they want to engage. This is where on-site support can really bring great benefit.

🔹Support is holistic and trauma informed.

🔹The foundation of support is based on an authentic relationship. It should be practical, reactive, flexible and prioritises the tenant first.

We know that Supportive Housing works. We are advocating for Supportive Housing on a larger scale.

Homelessness Week 2026 has started and this year’s theme is all about Homelessness Action Now.

For the last 14 years, we have seen homelessness end for a large number of people who are tenants within our housing.

It’s the evidence-based Supportive Housing model which we run in partnership with other organisations that we see real, tangible change in people’s lives.

To us, Homelessness Action Now, means creating pathways for more Supportive Housing as a way to end homelessness permanently, one person at a time.

Housing Ready vs. Housing First — what’s the difference?

The team at CGQ strongly believe in Housing First principles as a means of ending homelessness. For over 14 years, we’ve provided safe, permanent Supportive Housing to the most vulnerable in our communities.

Housing is a human right, and we ensure that there are no pre-conditions for access to that right here at CGQ.

❗Important community announcement!❗

On Monday 27 July 2026, a test Critical Alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia. In Queensland, this will happen at approximately 2:00 pm.

This includes most phones, and some smart watches and tablets.

If you would prefer to not receive the critical alert, please turn off your phone or switch it to ‘aeroplane mode’ for at least one hour before and after the scheduled test time.

We were fortunate enough to be part of The Calile Hotel’s ‘Stay with Purpose’ initiative.

For every night a guest stays, $5 is donated to local charities and organisations creating real change, right here in Brisbane.

For us, that meant raising over $20,000 over the month of June.

We are proud to announce that this money will go towards more Supportive Housing opportunities across South East Queensland.

This is an example of local community fundraising initiatives creating real, lasting change and we are so lucky that we have The Calile Hotel on our side as a Corporate Partner.

The cleaning team are the backbone of Common Ground Queensland.

They keep things running in the building, and ensure that the common areas in and around Brisbane Common Ground are well-presented and spotless.

Meet Mohamad, one of our cleaning team members. Known by our staff as ‘Habibi’, Mohamed has worked as a cleaner here since 2022.

Mohamad was a tenant in our Asylum Seeker and Refugee Assistance housing program for a number of years, before he successfully transitioned to independent living.

Yesterday, our friends at the United Artists Project hosted ‘Strength and Recognition - A NAIDOC Week celebration’, their annual NAIDOC Week exhibition opening at Hope Street Café.

Inspired by this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years Deadly, the exhibition celebrates creativity, culture, resilience and the generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples whose strength continues to shape our communities.

The United Artists Project (UAP) champions marginalised Brisbane artists through supported art groups, events and activities. Some of the artists are residents right here at Brisbane Common Ground.

Many of the artworks on display are for sale. If you would like to truly support local, grassroots artists, come on down to Hope Street Café at 15 Hope Street, South Brisbane QLD 4101 to have a look.

The exhibition continues until 31 August 2026.
