Emmanuel City Mission Emmanuel City Mission is a daytime sanctuary for the homeless and vulnerable of Brisbane.

As a ministry of Emmanuel Community, Emmanuel City Mission was established in 2009 to serve the vulnerable of Brisbane. Originally named Blind Eye Ministries, the ministry was created as a volunteer, street-based outreach service and from 2014 a place-based sanctuary at 19 Merivale Street in South Brisbane. Today Emmanuel City Mission delivers a range of services to the homeless and vulnerable including:

Nutritious Food: We provide hot meals everyday at 12pm, a range of breakfast options plus tea and coffee throughout the day. Showers and washing facilities: Our visitors are free to use our clean and hot shower and wash their clothes regularly. Clothing and toiletry packs: We provide visitors with clean clothes and toiletry packs they can take. A place to have your voice heard: We provide a safe space free from the chaos and isolation of the streets. We believe Emmanuel City Mission is a place that can truly bring hope and healing to the lives of people who need it most.

This week our sister Tami-Lee spent two consecutive nights at Night Sanctuary - Tuesday and Wednesday. ❤️

With our second night now open she could come back the next evening for another safe night’s rest.

Tuesday night we opened our front gate for another night of sanctuary. ❤️

Our Night Sanctuary is now open every Tuesday and Wednesday - another night when people experiencing homelessness can find a bed, rest safely and be welcomed by our team.

We’ve been working towards this for a long time. Seeing our visitors arrive on Tuesday was a moment worth celebrating.

To our amazing supporters, thank you. Your generosity helped make this happen. And to the staff and volunteers who got everything ready and welcomed our visitors - thank you for showing up.

Because of this community more people have somewhere safe to sleep and people beside them who care. We can’t wait to open for more nights. That’s what we’re working towards - a safe place to rest, every night of the week.

A bit of rain was never going to dampen the spirits in South Brisbane as Emmanuel City Mission reached a really special milestone today ❤️‍🩹

Roby and the incredible team here have just expanded Brisbane Night Sanctuary to two nights a week - helping more vulnerable Queenslanders get the support they need, when they need it.

It’s a big achievement as we back Night Sanctuary to become a 24/7 crisis accomodation refuge with 110 beds, alongside Mosaic Property Group and Archdiocese of Brisbane.

This will mean a permanent place here in the heart of Brisbane to get a good night’s sleep, home-cooked meal, warm shower, clean clothes and access to services like healthcare.

Roby and everyone at ECM are changing lives, and we’re proud to be the first state government helping take their work to the next level.

Meet Damian the newest member of the ECM team!

Damian first came to know ECM as a special place built on genuine connection, dignity and community. Now we’re very lucky to officially have him as part of the team. 🙌

For Damian it’s an honour to come to work each day and walk alongside our visitors, sharing conversations, building relationships and simply being there.

Our friends at Rosies - Friends on the Street are helping our visitors take meaningful steps towards employment through their Heartworks program. ♥️

Visitors are referred before taking part in 4 to 6 weeks of training, building practical skills, confidence and experience to help them move towards employment.

And the impact is growing. In the past 12 months, 54 people have been through the program. 🙌

In this video, Danii from Rosies shares more about Heartworks and the opportunities it is creating for our visitors.

We’re incredibly grateful for partnerships like this. Because supporting someone experiencing homelessness isn’t just about meeting the need in front of them today. It’s also about creating pathways towards a more secure future.

A huge thank you to the wonderful students and staff from and the team from .pizza.viking for spending the day with us at Emmanuel City Mission.

Together, they served up delicious pizzas, shared conversations and helped create a welcoming space where our visitors felt seen, valued and cared for.

It's about so much more than a meal. It's about connection, dignity and reminding people that they belong.

Behind every person experiencing homelessness is a story. 🤍

Today Nathan shared what Emmanuel City Mission has meant to him. 

This year’s Homelessness Week theme is “Homelessness Action Now” because we know what works.

At Emmanuel City Mission, that action happens every day through a warm meal, a safe place to belong, and people who genuinely care.

When Jeff and I set out to walk from Brisbane to Alice Springs we believed God could do something extraordinary. 🙏

Today because of your incredible generosity, we’ve raised more than $1.09 million to help open more nights of Night Sanctuary at Emmanuel City Mission.

That means more of our visitors will have somewhere safe to sleep, a warm meal to eat, a hot shower and people who know their name.

This was never just about a walk. It was always about creating hope for those doing it tough.

To every person who donated, prayed, shared our story, welcomed us into your community or cheered us on along the way...thank you. You have become part of something that will change lives for years to come.

I’ve recorded a short message to personally thank you. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch it. ❤️
