💜 FIVE YEARS OF HOPE 💜

Five years ago today, we pressed “post” on a simple Facebook announcement:

"Defenders For Hope are excited to announce the opening of our new Op Shop in Logan Village. Our grand opening is on Monday 14th June 2021. We would love to see you there!"

At the time, we had no idea what that little shop would become.

We just knew that our community needed help, and we wanted to do something about it.

By our first birthday, we had already opened a second store in Hillcrest. We were honoured to receive our first Queensland award, but the true reward was seeing the lives being changed through kindness, compassion and practical support. These awards were one of many.

Just six months later came Jimboomba – and with it, something that changed everything. We introduced a Foodbank and a free shower for families doing it tough. Suddenly, we saw the reality of the need right in front of us. Families weren't just looking for bargains; they were looking for food, dignity and hope. We realised that sometimes the most important meal is the one someone can't afford.

Then in September 2023, we opened our Beaudesert store after recognising another community that desperately needed support. Once again, we added food relief and practical services because helping people has always been at the heart of what we do.

In just a few short years, four stores became a lifeline for thousands of people.

But we didn't stop there.

We created more than 30 community programs and services. We wrote a children's book to bring comfort to kids living in shelters and escaping domestic violence. In November 2024 we launched Defenders Soul Kitchen so everyone could enjoy affordable, home-cooked meals and great coffee, while every purchase helped us feed and support others in need. Just bring people together!

Today, five years later, our mission hasn't changed.

We are still here for the person sleeping in their car.
We are still here for the family escaping violence.
We are still here for the child who needs hope.
We are still here for the neighbour who has nowhere else to turn.

And none of this would have been possible without you.

To every volunteer who has given their time, every donor who has shared what they have, every customer who has shopped in our stores or enjoyed a meal at Defenders Soul Kitchen, every business that has partnered with us, and every person who has simply shared one of our posts…

You built this.

You are the reason Defenders for Hope exists today.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and walking this journey with us. Here's to the next five years of defending hope, changing lives and proving that when a community comes together, incredible things can happen.

Once again, Mindy has shown what community spirit is all about.

Every year she generously supports Defenders For Hope, and this year she has done it again by donating brand new sleeping bags, tarps, blankets, ropes and camping gear for those doing it tough in our community.

We cannot thank you enough, Mindy. Your kindness and generosity will make a real difference to people who are facing some of the hardest times in their lives.

The best part is that these donations didn't sit on a shelf for long. They have already been distributed to vulnerable members of our community who desperately needed them.

On these cold nights and during this wet weather, your donation is helping people stay warmer, drier and safer.

What an incredible community we are blessed to be part of! Thank you Leeanne Enoch MP for your suppoort!

As the colder weather sets in, we are overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown through our Annual Blanket Drive. Seeing so many people come together to help keep vulnerable members of our community warm this winter has been truly heartwarming.

Every blanket, sleeping bag, jacket, beanie, pair of socks, and donation received will make a real difference to someone doing it tough. For many of the people we support, these items are more than just warmth—they are a reminder that their community cares.

A special thank you to the Forestdale Neighbourhood Watch team for coordinating donation drop-off points and helping collect much-needed items. Your support and community spirit are greatly appreciated. 🧣❄️❤️

💜 THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS 💜

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our Winter Appeal. Every donation, every share, every kind word and every act of support makes a difference.

A special thank you goes to Women's Diagnostic Centre Sunnybank for their generous donation and support of our community. 💜

While we are incredibly grateful, the need is still growing. Our shelters are struggling, and our friends in the parks still need help. We continue to need blankets, sleeping bags, tarps, warm clothing and essential supplies.

What we really want people to understand is that many of the vulnerable people we support are escaping family and domestic violence.

Many have lost everything.

Some have no family.
Some have no friends.
Some have been isolated from their support networks for years.

Many are carrying trauma that most of us could never imagine.

We are not here to judge their circumstances. We are here to support them.

Too often people fall through the cracks of systems that were designed to help them. They become lost, forgotten and invisible. When that happens, community becomes their safety net.

That is why your support matters so much.

When you donate, volunteer, shop in our stores or buy a meal from Defenders Soul Kitchen, you help us continue providing hope, dignity and practical support to people who need it most.

💜 A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY 💜

On the weekend and every weekend, the Defenders for Hope volunteer team was out in our local parks providing support to people doing it tough.

Because of your generosity, we were able to hand out:
🛏 Sleeping bags
🏕 Tarps and ropes
🧣 Blankets
👕 Clothing
🧢 Beanies
🍲 Home-cooked meals

The reality is that homelessness is growing.

More people are finding themselves without a safe place to call home. Public spaces are under increasing pressure. Waste is becoming a bigger issue. Basic sanitation is lacking in many locations. Behind every tent, every sleeping bag and every meal is a person trying to survive another day.

What many people don't realise is that this support isn't funded by councils or government programs.

It's funded by YOU.

Every time you shop at one of our stores, buy a meal from Defenders Soul Kitchen, donate goods, volunteer your time or make a donation, you help us provide practical support to vulnerable people in our community.

You are the reason we can show up week after week.

Today we're asking for one simple thing...
