Do you know about our soft plastics recycling program on the Coast?

Curby allows us to recycle our soft plastics in our kerbside yellow-lidded recycling bin, diverting a lot of recyclable resources from landfill! ♻

You can join in the movement with the following steps:

👉 Fill any soft plastic bag with clean, scrunchable plastics – go to https://www.curbyit.com/softplastics/ to check what’s accepted
👉 Attach a CurbyTag – completely free for Central Coast residents and available from Council libraries, Customer Service Centres in Gosford and Wyong, or online
👉 Scan the tag using the Curby app
👉 Place the bag in your yellow recycling bin

This week one of our drivers had a very close call with a gas bottle. After tipping a bin that contained a gas bottle into the back of the truck, the driver managed to remove it before it became a problem.

Please don't place gas bottles or cylinders in your kerbside bins or out for bulk collection. These items can cause serious harm to our drivers if compacted in the waste collection vehicles. 🔥

To dispose of gas bottles safely, please take them to one of Council's Waste Management Facilities, or take to the next Household Chemical CleanOut day.

For information on how to dispose of problem wastes, check out our A-Z Waste Disposal and Recycling Guide on the 1Coast website:

Did you know that the way you store your food can make a massive difference to how fresh it stays?

Prevent food waste and save money by following our food storage tips to help you preserve your food for as long as possible:

✅Use airtight containers to store your opened pantry items
✅Use date labels
✅Rotate your storage by newer items at the back
✅Avoid contamination – separate meat and vegetables and avoid using the same serving spoon for different items

A little organisation can go a long way towards reducing our impact and making a sustainable future possible💚♻🌎

Batteries do NOT belong in your kerbside bins! 🔋❌🗑️

One spark is all it takes to see one of our waste collection vehicles go up in flames. 🔥

Household batteries can be disposed of at your local B-cycle drop-off location, while car or marine batteries can be taken to one of Council’s Waste Management Facilities, to the next Household Chemical CleanOut day, or to various retailers.

Check out the B-cycle site for more info on drop-off locations, and the 1Coast site for more info on disposing batteries and other problem waste types:

Spring certainly has sprung on the Central Coast! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and of course it's the perfect time for spring cleaning! 🌸

Before tossing everything and sending it to landfill, consider these other options:

♻ Waste Nots Central Coast – A local community Facebook group that allows you to give away your preloved items to those who will use them!

facebook.com/groups/wastenotcentralcoast/

♻ Big W’s Toys for Joy – A recycling program that aims to reduce the number of old toys going to landfill!

♻ Planet Ark’s Recycling Near You – There may be more recycling options for your items than you think! Check out Recycling Near You for more info!
