1Coast 1Coast helps Central Coast residents better understand their waste collection and recycling.

Recycling our waste can become a daily activity which has real benefits for the environment. By diverting thousands of tonnes of recyclable material from landfill, the Central Coast will be making real environmental savings. By recycling in the Yellow Bin we help conserve natural resources, save water and energy, conserve landfill space, decrease greenhouse gas emissions and reduce pollution. Recy

cling closes the resources loop ensuring valuable resources are not land-filled, instead they are put back into good use making much less impact on our environment in the re-manufacturing process the second time around.

Did you know that steel and aluminium can be recycled forever without losing quality? 🀯

The recycling process for aluminium uses approximately 5% of the energy used to produce new aluminium metal from bauxite, while recycling steel can save up to 60% of the energy used to produce steel from raw materials!

Recycling steel and aluminium not only reduces energy use and COβ‚‚ emissions, but it also prevents useful resources going to landfill!

Today is World Turtle Day! πŸ’πŸ’š

Plastic pollution threatens the lives of these beautiful creatures, as they can mistake plastic waste for food. Consuming plastic can cause blockages, starvation, and can trap air within their bodies, which prevents them from diving down properly. 😱

Let's show our appreciation for turtles and other sea creatures by ensuring our waste stays out of the ocean and other waterways!

Do you need a refresher on what goes into your yellow-lidded recycling bin?

It is important to remember that your recycling bin is NOT the same as a donation bin! Old shoes, clothes, and rugs like those seen in these photos can NOT be recycled through your domestic kerbside recycling service. Please consider donating these items if they are still in good condition, otherwise place them in your red-lidded general waste bin.

The following items can be placed in your yellow-lidded recycling bin:

β™» Paper and cardboard
β™» Rigid plastic bottles and containers
β™» Metal cans, aerosol cans, and foil trays
β™» Glass bottles and jars
β™» Soft plastics (only if you use Curby stickers)

And that's it!

For more info on what goes in each bin, check out the 1Coast website!

Is your bin overflowing?

It is important that your bin lid is able to close all the way to ensure:

πŸ‘‰ Animal don't get in your bin and spread rubbish
πŸ‘‰ Rain doesn't fill your bin with water
πŸ‘‰ Rubbish doesn't blow away in the wind
πŸ‘‰ Our trucks can properly empty your bins

If you need more space, you can upgrade to a larger bin or get additional bins. Check out the 1Coast website for more info.

Both passionate composters, permies, and good humans, Victoria Waghorn and Kate Laurie are meeting for the first time to explore what inspires them about the alchemy of composting our food waste into our gardens.

Together, they’ll wander through soil, community, food systems, and the simple, powerful act of turning waste into life β€” wherever you are.

Kate Laurie is a psychotherapist and long-time tender of earth and people, who finds magic in compost, community, and giving new life to old things. Victoria Waghorn is a filmmaker and permaculture designer exploring re-wilding, food systems, and life beyond the supermarket.

This isn’t a 101 how-to session β€” it’s a conversation.
