A huge shout out 🎉 to those who made our early Early Spring Show a success! 🙏🏻
The Waterside Pavillion looked amazing with the daffodils and camellia’s on display, as well as our floral art designs and the various entries for cut flowers and pot plants!💐
Let’s not forget our budding gardeners - our Juniors - who are showing their evolving talent as they progress each season.🫶🏻
Thank you to our volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Bringing everything together under new circumstances certainly paid off. 👏
Congratulations to our Champions and place getters - these get listed in our journal as there are many who received kudos 🏆
And most of all - thank you to you - the public, for coming along and supporting us. The feedback we received was positive and encouraging 😊
Now…work is underway again as we prepare for our Late Spring Show ~ featuring Roses and Irises 🌹
We hope to have the schedule out soon to give exhibitors time to prepare.

🌸Hello Spring!🌸

Spring is here, bringing blossom, bulbs, fresh growth and busy pollinators back into the garden, but Hobart weather can still swing between warm sunshine, cold nights and late frosts.

🌱 What’s happening in the garden now: bulbs and fruit trees are flowering, new shoots are appearing on trees and perennials, w**ds are growing fast, and bees are becoming more active. It’s also the time when slugs, snails and aphids start looking for soft new growth. (So watch out!)

🥕 Veg to sow now: peas, broad beans, lettuce, spinach, silverbeet, beetroot, carrots, radish, spring onions and herbs. Start tomatoes, zucchini, pumpkins, cucumbers, beans, capsicum and eggplant under protection until the soil warms.

🌼 Flower focus: enjoy spring bulbs, pansies, violas, primulas and alyssum now, and sow hardy favourites like sweet peas, poppies, calendula, cornflowers and nigella. As the soil warms, plant dahlia tubers in late spring once frost risk has passed. Tender annuals such as zinnias, cosmos and sunflowers can be started earlier in a hothouse or protected trays, then planted out when nights are warmer.

✅ Spring jobs: add compost, mulch beds, feed hungry plants, w**d early, divide suitable perennials, check stakes and trellises, tidy pots, and prepare garden beds for summer crops.

❄️ Tip: don’t rush tender seedlings outdoors.
Keep covers, cloches or sheltered spots ready until nights are warmer and conditions are more settled.

What’s growing, flowering or buzzing in your garden this week? 🌷
