Polynesian Va'a-alo Outrigger Canoe Club was formed in 2015 and operates out of Shornclife in North Brisbane, Australia. We conduct Competitive, Social and Junior Outrigger Paddling with a membership of around 85 members of all ages. The Club prides itself on its culture with a focus on maintaining and promoting a mix of Polynesian, Australian and multi cultural values. This includes being warm, w
elcoming, having fun and building friendships, making connections, encouraging positive attitudes, and building a strong and vibrant community group. The Club fully acknowledges the Local Turrbal People on whose land we reside and we meet regularly with indigenous elders and incorporate Turrbal art, designs, names and symbols into the club identity, uniforms and canoe artwork
We have excellent facilities as part of VMR Shorncliffe with toilets, showers, changing rooms, training/meeting rooms, function rooms and both street and secure parking. We have a fleet of seven OC6 canoes and a number of 2 and 1 person canoes. These are all well maintained, kept under cover and secured in a fenced and monitored compound. In addition to 3x fiberglass ROCs, 2x Andersen’s in an OC12 configuration and an OC6 Bladerunner and OC2 Bladerunner, the fleet includes a growing number of carbon fibre lite weight racing canoes. The club also maintains, a large selection of club paddles for newer paddlers and juniors as well as a canoe trailer for transporting canoes to distant Regattas. The Clubs youngest paddlers are aged 12 and the oldest 76. We operate both men's and women's competitive teams in the Junior U16/U19, Opens, (20-38), Masters (40-49), Senior Masters (50-59), Golden Masters and even Platinum Masters categories (71 and above). The majority of Club paddlers fall within the 40-60 masters/senior masters age bracket. Training times are:
Tuesday & Thursday 6pm Competitive Paddlers
Saturdays 6am Competitive Paddlers (7am During winter months - April-August)
Sunday 8am - Novice/Social Paddlers - This is where new paddlers start. No pressure fun easy paddling
Juniors 12-17 years old, Wed 4.30pm
