A number of people have emailed FOOCC recently regarding the noisy windmill at the Common. We are a volunteer organisation with no funding for or jurisdiction over the facilities at the Common, like the Red Shed, toilets or the windmill.

The best person to contact is Mandy Gosal, Project Officer, Strategic Infrastructure Management, DAF (Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Qld) via this email: [email protected].

: In another big win for wildlife, has announced it will remove all second-generation rat poisons (SGARs) from shelves by 30 June 2026, following the regulator’s updated recommendation for a full retail ban of these wildlife-killing poisons

This comes 9 months ahead of the mandated deadline for their removal.

The decision follows a petition from near 40,000 of our supporters calling on Bunnings to act. Your signatures and tags have helped make Bunnings the first retailer to commit to removing SGARs from shelves.

Removing these long-lasting poisons as soon as possible is a critical step for protecting wildlife, helping to reduce further deaths while these recommendations are finalised.

We thank Bunnings for taking this step and hope it encourages Woolworths, Mitre 10, Coles and other retailers to follow suit as soon as possible.

Let's keep the good news rolling 😎🦉

In the first FOOCC Newsletter for 2026 you can read our February bird walk report and see some gorgeous plant and bird photos, see what the Tuesday Common Carers are up to in 2026, and learn about Mistletoe at the Common.

Our next FREE guided bird walk will be in May. If you would like a priority invitation to join this, become a member of FOOCC. To ensure the best possible experience for everyone, the walks are limited to 30 people and our members are offered the first registration opportunities. Previous events have sold out very quickly, with only members joining. Full details on how to become a FOOCC Member are on our web page. Being a member also helps to pay for trees and equipment so that we can continue to maintain the natural environment in the Common to share with everyone.

We hope you enjoy the Newsletter. Please share with friends and family, and if you have anything you would like to contribute to the next one (especially photos of the Common), please send them through to [email protected].

We look forward to seeing you at the Common sometime soon

Not quite The Common but you might like to have your say here, being that our Lord Mayor is very keen on having hotels and amusement parks and such in the area. The old quarry could be a great green space if managed correctly.
