Greater Shepparton Foundation attended the 2026 National Community Foundations Forum in Melbourne, joining community foundations from across Australia to explore how local leadership, local knowledge and local philanthropy can help communities thrive in uncertain times.

The theme, Meeting the Moment, sparked important conversations about resilience, social cohesion, housing, climate challenges and the future of giving. One message stood out: communities are best placed to understand their own challenges and create local solutions.

We were inspired by the many examples of communities leading positive change and reminded of the important role community foundations play in building trust, collaboration and long-term impact.

Across Australia, communities aren't waiting for change — they're creating it.

❤️ PHO VIET X SHEPPARTON FOODSHARE ❤️

After our recent bushfire fundraiser, what stayed with us most wasn’t just the amount raised… but the kindness and community spirit everyone shared with us ❤️

This Friday, Pho Viet would love to continue giving back by supporting Shepparton Foodshare and their “Great Rice Drive” 🍚

📍 For one day only, every Bánh Mì and Vietnamese Coffee sold at Pho Viet will help donate rice to families in need ❤️

🥖 1 Bánh Mì = around 6.5kg of rice donated
☕ 1 Vietnamese Coffee = around 4kg of rice donated

Sometimes, a small meal or coffee can become something much bigger for someone else ❤️

Pho Viet will publicly and transparently share the final total of sales and rice donated after the fundraiser 😊

Thank you for always supporting Pho Viet and our community ❤️

Wonderful initiative South Shepparton Community Church supporting those in need in our community 💕

As the colder weather approaches, we’ve been thinking about more ways we can support those in our community who are experiencing homelessness. During the month of June, we are going to trial opening our building up overnight from Friday 6pm until Saturday morning 9am, for anybody who would like to drop in for some food, a cuppa, a shower, or just a warm place to hang out and have a rest.
This Sunday 24th May, we will be holding a volunteer information/training session at the church building at 1pm. Hope to see you there

EMPLOYMENT VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Congratulations Tyler Turner on receiving an Employment Vocational Training Scholarship! 👏

Tyler will be undertaking a Certificate II in Plumbing at GOTAFE taking another exciting step toward a rewarding career in the trades. We wish him every success as he begins this journey and develops the skills and experience needed for the plumbing industry.

The Employment Vocational Training Scholarship is designed to support local people into employment pathways by helping cover the costs associated with vocational education and training. The scholarship operates by providing financial assistance to eligible participants undertaking accredited courses that improve their job readiness, practical skills, and long-term employment opportunities.

Programs like this create real opportunities for people to gain qualifications, build confidence, and connect with industries that need skilled workers.

Well done Tyler — we’re excited to see where this opportunity takes you!

This week as we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we are proud to acknowledge the incredible people who generously give their time to strengthen our community.

Meet Lynette, one of our newest volunteers at Greater Shepparton Foundation. Passionate about helping young people thrive, Lynette has already made a meaningful impact through our scholarship programs, supporting a local young person to secure an Employment and Vocational Training Scholarship and commence their pathway course.

“Volunteering truly nourishes my soul; it makes me feel good, helping others and connecting with community,” Lynette said.

Lynette is just one of the many wonderful volunteers helping create stronger, more connected communities.

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF COMMUNITY GIVING💫
This year the Greater Shepparton Foundation celebrates a 25 year milestone, building on the legacy of our predecessor, The Community Fund Goulburn Valley and United Way Community Fund.

It is only through the generosity of our community, genuine collaboration and a shared commitment to strengthening our region that we have been able to reach this impressive milestone.

Looking back over 25 years, we have so much to be proud of:
* $1.5 million granted to support local organisations to support the work they do in servicing community
* Backing 164 local people through the Lift Off Education Scholarship Program
* $100,000 raised to deliver 9,230 meals during COVID lockdowns
* $300,000 raised to support our flood impacted communities

Possibly one of the most poignant demonstrations of community coming together to support community need, the establishment of Shepparton Foodshare as a central hub to collect for for people in and need, and a central hub to donate food.

Thank you to our community, for every donation that has helped the Greater Shepparton Foundation support those in our community who need it most.

If you are in a position to make a tax deductible donation, you can at https://www.greatershepparton.foundation/major-projects-ol/major-projects/donate-to-gsf/donate

EMPLOYMENT AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP

A huge congratulations to Will Ainsworth on securing an Employment and Vocational Training Scholarship to support out-of-pocket expenses while undertaking his Certificate IV in Engineering with GOTAFE 👏

For many young people, the cost of training, tools, travel, and course materials can be a real barrier. Support like this doesn’t just ease financial pressure — it gives young people the confidence to pursue their goals, stay engaged in education, and take meaningful steps toward long-term employment.

When we invest in young people across Greater Shepparton, we’re investing in the future of our region. Skilled, supported young workers help strengthen local industries, build resilient communities, and create opportunities for the next generation to thrive. Pathways like vocational training are critical in ensuring young people can access practical, hands-on careers that are in demand.

This opportunity has been made possible through a valued partnership between the Greater Shepparton Foundation and Goulburn Murray LLEN, with financial support from Rotary Club of Shepparton Central and Soroptimist International of Shepparton Inc.

This collaboration continues to play a vital role in breaking down barriers and creating real pathways into employment for local youth.

Well done, Will — wishing you every success in your studies and future career!
