Last week our CEO Linda Nieuwenhuizen attended the Breakfast with Purpose, held by Kaiela Arts, a special event for local Aboriginal businesses and Plan Champions for the Goulburn Murray Regional Productivity and Prosperity Plan (GMRPPP), of which C4GS is one.
Art Centre Manager Anita Larkin spoke on what equal economic participation, particularly in the arts sector, looked like and how local businesses can engage with and support First Nations culture and creativity.
A panel of speakers talked about the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation’s Yirramboi Initiative, supporting Yorta Yorta economic participation and self-determination, along with the business mentoring service and how important creative art is to First Nations culture and economic sustainability.

Last week Travis Lovett dropped in, inviting community to join him on his Yorta Yorta Woka leg of the Walk for Truth — a powerful journey from the steps of Parliament to the Prime Minister’s office in Canberra, spanning 840km.

We’re looking forward to walking alongside Travis as he continues this path, raising awareness and strengthening support for truth-telling as a vital process for healing — across community, generations, and the nation. You can register your support his link in bio and stay informed about how you can support and join Travis as makes his way to Canberra on Ngunnawal Country 👣✨

It was energising to feel the collective momentum building at our 2025 Plan Champions Workshop on 13 November, held at Rumbalara Football Netball Club — a place of deep community connection and shared history on Yorta Yorta woka (Country).

We welcomed almost 60 participants from 33 Plan Champion organisations for a day grounded in connection, learning and collaboration around the Goulburn Murray Regional Prosperity and Productivity Plan (GMRPPP).

The workshop was rich with insight, shared stories and genuine dialogue. Together, Plan Champions explored how we can strengthen a thriving First Nations-led regional economy that generates shared prosperity and long-term benefits for the whole region. The ideas shaped on the day continue to guide our collective path forward.

Guest presenters included:
• Dr Paul Briggs AO, Executive Chair, Kaiela Institute & Co-Chair, GMRPPP
• David McKenzie, Co-Chair, GMRPPP
• Felicia Dean, CEO, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative
• Christina Bassini, General Manager – People, Culture & Safety, Goulburn Valley Water
• Wayne Dagger, Regional Director, Goulburn Murray, Jawun

The GMRPPP is built to benefit the entire region, and we welcome organisations of all kinds to walk alongside us in realising its vision. To learn how you can support First Nations businesses and strengthen local procurement, explore the First Nations Business List on the Committee for Greater Shepparton (C4GS) website and our Social Procurement Kit from Kaiela Institute.

Thank you to everyone who attended and to all who continue to walk with us as Plan Champions. Together, we are strengthening our region and honouring the leadership of Yorta Yorta people in shaping a prosperous future for all.

Reflecting on a powerful morning of collaboration and inspiration!
Just over a week ago, we celebrated in Shepparton with a breakfast event that brought together community, business, and education leaders to explore this year’s theme — .

C4GS, Kaiela Institute, and La Trobe Shepparton Campus co-hosted the event, featuring a panel of inspiring Indigenous business leaders:
✨ Daniel Briggs, Founder & Managing Director of Yurringa Energy, the nation’s first Indigenous-owned retail energy provider
✨ Anita Larkin, Art Centre Manager at Kaiela Arts, bringing over 30 years’ experience across the arts, environmental and community sectors
✨ Mervyn Fernando, proud Dunghutti and Kamilaroi leader, and Founder of Claystone Marketing, Indigenous Medical Supplies, and the AIQCAI Institute of Ethics

We were also joined by Plan Champions for the Goulburn Murray Regional Prosperity Plan (GMRPP), whose leadership and commitment continue to create opportunities for Indigenous business and regional prosperity.

The morning also saw the launch of the Local Indigenous Business Directory, connecting and strengthening Indigenous businesses across the region.

Thank you to everyone who joined and continues to strengthen Indigenous business through collaboration and shared purpose.

✨The 17th Annual Dungala Kaiela Oration ✨
Ngarra Murray, Co-Chair, First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria — “Prospering through Treaty in the Goulburn Murray.”

Since its beginning in 2009, with voices such as Noel Pearson, the late Moana Jackson, Megan Davis, and Justin Mohamed, the Dungala Kaiela Oration has become a defining space for bold ideas grounded in Aboriginal culture, self-determination, and regional transformation.

This year, as the Oration returns to Rumbalara Football Netball Club —a place where Nanyak, the invincible spirit, is lived—we are honoured to welcome Ngarra Murray.

With Treaty imminent, this moment resonates far beyond the Goulburn Murray—it speaks to Victoria and to Australia. Join us in this historic reckoning and renewal of hope.
