Every single one of our dogs deserves a second chance just like this 💛
Nutmeg (now Buddy) came into our from a local pound after being found wandering and despite the fact that we had no history about his life before this time, it was clear that he had never had enough socialisation 😔 After 98 days in our care, this happy boy was finally chosen by his forever family who have worked so hard to help him become the perfect companion he was always destined to be 🐶 ✨
"Buddy is such a friendly dog—he loves nearly everyone he meets, and his wagging tail just about lifts him off the floor when he gets excited for pats and attention. He absolutely loves his twice-daily walks, but we’re pretty sure his favourite part of the morning walk is stopping at our local coffee shop, where he’s spoiled with biscuits and pats from the staff.
He is a great walking buddy and could go for hours, whether it’s along the coast, around the lake, or just through the neighbourhood. No matter where he is, he happily wiggles his butt as he walks along, earning smiles from everyone he passes.
Buddy loves being close to his people—especially Steve—and often seems to think he’s a lap dog! He’s a toy destroyer, but he also loves snuggling into his blankets, especially in cooler weather, burying his nose to get comfy. Squeaky tennis balls are his absolute favourite, although he’ll only drop them on his own terms, which can make playing ball quite interesting.
We tried puppy school, but flunked out due to Buddy’s over-excitement, so we worked one-on-one with a trainer instead. When we first got him, Buddy was quite reactive to some dogs—especially those that ran or approached him quickly. He’s done incredibly well, and while there are still some breeds he doesn’t like, he can now interact calmly with dogs he knows and with those that approach him in a relaxed way.
Buddy loves treats—but not your typical dog treats! He’s obsessed with blueberries, banana, broccoli, apple, and carrots, and will sit very politely staring at us while we’re eating until we have no choice but to share.
He fits perfectly into our family, and we can’t thank the Dog's Refuge Home enough."
