PRICELESS! - BUT AT A COST

The completely free shipment of precious books and educational resources sent to the Solomon Islands in March has now been distributed to 33 schools in need near Honiara and a few outer islands.

This cost around AUD $12,000 all up for the container and shipping.
It has depleted most of our finances.

As we near the end of the 2025-26 financial year, a reminder that Library Aid International Inc. is able to provide tax deductible receipts for donations above $2. Information is given on the Donations Page of our website at https://libraryaid.org .

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS

There is a saying that, "a picture is worth a thousand words." It means that images are more valuable than words when explaining something.

The following images say a lot about Library Aid International's desire to provide 'books to kids who need them' and the excitement it brings to kids, teachers, schools, helpers involved in distribution and village communities.

SMILES FROM ACROSS THE MILES

Twenty nine schools in need have picked up their allocation of used books and educational resources from the container that was shipped to the Solomon Islands in March. Two more schools have yet to collect them.

All up the container and shipping cost around AUD $12,000 and has almost depleted our funds. Donations are tax-deductible.

Here's a list of what was in the 1078 boxes kindly supplied by McCain Foods and Simplot, together with some more photos.

SOLOMON ISLAND SMILES

Registered charity, Library Aid International Inc., operates from the Uniting Church Hub in Sheffield, Tasmania.

We ship secondhand books and educational resources to needy schools in developing countries overseas. Primarily, these come from school libraries around Tasmania when they are no longer needed. We are so glad to be able to give them a second life!

Our twelfth container, packed with 1072 boxes of books and educational resources arrived in Honiara, capital of the Solomon Islands, on March 25, 2026. Now, almost a month later, thirty one schools have collected their allocation.

Solomon Islander, Hillary Meija, who compiled the list of needy schools to benefit from our second container of books and educational resources to the Solomons says, ”Sadly, some of the schools in the Western and Chosuel provinces were severely affected by the recent cyclone. These books are a huge blessing to them, as they will start over again."

Our next container is to be shipped to Fiji in March 2027. Thanks to our book and financial donors and hard working volunteers, it is already 12% full of precious learning resources.

BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING

“I will bless you. . . . and you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:2 (NIV)

This Bible verse is so powerful because it reminds us that God's blessings aren't just for us to enjoy, but to share with others and make a positive impact in their lives by being a source of hope, comfort, and love.

Solomon Islander, Hillary Meija, who compiled the list of needy schools to benefit from our second container of books and educational resources, says ”Sadly, some of the schools in the Western and Chosuel provinces were severely affected by the recent cyclone. These books are a huge blessing to them, as they will start over again.

Thanks so much, Library Aid International, and Christian Reformed Churches of Australia Supporting Work in Mission (SWIM) Base, for supporting the education of our children in the Solomons."
