On the occasion of Mother’s Day, with the aim of honoring the mothers of the children of Thilagawathiyar Home and creating an opportunity for mothers and children to spend joyful time together, Mahalirillam Australia funded an event on 10.05.2026, and Social Welfare Organization hosted the program at Thilakavadiyar Girls’ Home, Thiruppallugamam, Batticaloa.

A social welfare program involving the distribution of new Saree and dry food items was organized and conducted. The event was presided by SWO’s Vice President, Mr. Sathanandam.

In addition, to entertain and honor the mothers, the girls of the home performed poetry recitals, speeches, and drama presentations. These activities emotionally expressed the greatness of motherhood and created a joyful and touching atmosphere at the venue.

The event became an excellent example of social service that strengthened social harmony and humanitarian values. It is noteworthy that such programs provide great support to families facing economic difficulties. Finally, lunch was provided to everyone who participated in the event.

On 02 April 2026, revolving loan assistance for self-employment was provided to 12 beneficiary families from the Kirankulam Central and Kirankulam North Grama Niladhari divisions under the Araiyampathy Divisional Secretariat. Each family received Rs. 40,000, bringing the total disbursed to Rs. 480,000.

MahalirIllam Australia initiated the Revolving Loan Program in 2020 and has continued to fund the Social Welfare Organisation to implement it. The program provides interest-free loans of Rs. 40,000 to women—often the sole breadwinners of their families—to support them in starting small business ventures.

Beneficiaries are selected from lists provided by Divisional Secretariat offices. Once the initial loan is repaid, the funds are recycled and extended to other eligible women-headed families, enabling more beneficiaries to establish businesses such as poultry farming, goat rearing, and small snack shops.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who generously supported our flood-relief efforts in Batticaloa District. Our relief efforts focus on providing essential dry-ration grocery packs to help families meet their basic needs for at least one week. Our partner organisation, the Social Welfare Organisation (SWO), is authorized to carry out relief work in 14 Divisional Secretariat (DS) areas in the Batticaloa District.

With your donations, we provided dry-ration grocery packs to 58 families on 03/12/2025. On 05/12/2025, we will be assisting 245 more families identified by the Porativupattu–Vellavely DS. Despite shortages and high demand, SWO is working hard to secure the needed items. We also expect further requests from other DS divisions.

Your kindness and quick response are making a real difference to families in need. Thank you for standing with us during this difficult time.
