This Homelessness Awareness Week, we joined Ursula, who volunteers every Tuesday night with Carevan Blacktown, to hear from Andrew about the growing reality of homelessness and the incredible work being done to support people in need across the community.

The demand for support continues to grow, but so does the impact of those who choose to give their time, show compassion, and help those around them.

A reminder that homelessness is a community issue, and it’s up to all of us to look out for one another. If you’re able to volunteer, donate, or lend a hand, every action makes a difference.

Enormous thanks to all the people and communities who continue to surround us with generosity, kindness and practical care and make Tuesday nights possible.😇

A sincere thank you to Tanya Stafa and the Belmonte Italian Cuisine community for your generous community spirit, warm hospitality, and ongoing practical support. Your contribution makes a real and tangible difference to the people we serve and to our wider community.

We were also genuinely humbled to be among the charities supported through Tanya’s fundraising efforts and kindness, alongside The Formal Project Bloom Inc and Ronald McDonald House, among many others supported both directly and indirectly. You are a community care gem 🥇

We are ever grateful to our good buddies Rebel, Rachel and the Blacktown City Lions Club community, who were joined this month in support of our community, by The Sydney Chinese Lions Club. We received an extraordinarily generous donation of food and rice. This commitment, especially in recognition of World Hunger Day, which Rebel is working tirelessly for, and in care of people in need of this basic necessity of life, reflects a powerful compassion in action, and the support creates real and lasting impact for people doing it 🫶tough.https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Ao5ijmfx3/

To our new (and slightly 'older') volunteers ~ thank you 😇Your willingness to show up and serve, brings energy to everything we do together and makes our work possible ~ we cannot do without the engine beneath us - our volunteers💚.

Thanks to those who have contributed to the blanket appeal🧣, thank you for every act of care, whether hand-knitted or purchased. Each blanket or warm piece of clothing, carries warmth far beyond the fabric itself, offering comfort, dignity and kindness to those who need it most.

Thanks to Terry White chemist at Stanhope for the hygiene goodies also

We are humbled by this collective generosity, hard work and kindness. Every act large or small becomes part of a shared effort to care for people in need, and together it truly makes a difference.

Ps.. a special note of thanks to Cheryl and Barbara for the quiet, steady, and faithful support. The behind-the-scenes kindness you offer is deeply valued and never taken for granted.💚

This National Volunteers Week, and in celebration of this year’s theme “Your Year to Volunteer,” we want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank the incredible volunteers who are the heart of Carevan Blacktown.

Every week, our volunteers give their time, energy and compassion to support people in our community doing it tough. Whether it’s preparing and serving meals, packing supplies, setting up, cleaning down, offering a listening ear, or simply showing kindness and respect to every person who visits us on a Tuesday evening ~ your contribution matters more than words can express.

Carevan Blacktown volunteering is about so much more than just providing food. It’s about creating social connection, dignity, hope and a sense of belonging for people who may be facing hardship, homelessness, loneliness or crisis.

Behind every interaction, service, activity and meal service is a team of dedicated people working quietly and selflessly to make a difference. From the frontline to the behind-the-scenes jobs ~ every act of kindness helps strengthen our community.

This year’s theme is a lovely reminder that volunteering changes lives ~ not only for those receiving support, but also for those giving their time to help others.

Thank you to each and every Carevan B'town green angel 🫶
You show up with open hearts, caring hands and unwavering generosity. Your kindness brings comfort, hope and connection to so many people each week.

On behalf of everyone whose lives are touched by Carevan Blacktown, THANK YOU. We are endlessly grateful for each and every one of you. 💚

Carevan Blacktown was privileged to be invited to take part in a Happy Senior's Week event at the Workers Lifestyle Group this week, manning (literally, thank you Andrew Scott) a table yesterday at the club, along with fellow organisations focused on both senior's well-being and enhanced community involvement

The Seniors Week for 2026 event, celebrates the important role senior citizens play in our community in so very many ways, and also the role groups like ours can play in supporting our community's senior though the support we offer and by involving them in the work we do.

This year’s Senior's Week theme, “Live Life in Colour,” encouraging seniors to embrace new experiences, build connections, and celebrate their life
https://www.nsw.gov.au/arts-and-culture/seniors-festival

Seniors are a truly valued and integral part of our volunteering and support networking community and of our green team of amazing humans - both at services and behind the scenes ~ helping through meal preparation, meal service, supporting with donations and connecting with others. We work to integrate and 'embrace' the knowledge and contribution this cohort have to offer as volunteers and supporters, which can only strengthen the work we strive to achieve within the community . 💚

On the flip side of this ~ Carevan Blacktown supports seniors, who form a large part of our patron community - seniors who face all the challenges of aging ~ limited mobility, declining health, access to services, financial pressure and social isolation These factors among others, make it difficult to access the basic needs of life and compromise well-being. We work hard each week to try to fill this gap by providing food ( and much more) within a welcoming space of community connection and care ~ helping a little way towards our senior patrons also to 'living a life of colour'

Huge thanks to Sharon and Shelly and the Workers lifestyle Group for their constant and unwavering support of Carevan Blacktown and our work - and as evidenced this week - of our community's senior citizens - helping care for them in so many ways.
