The Australian Government is considering major changes through the proposed NDIS Amendment Bill 2026. Carers SA has made a submission to ensure the voices of Carers and people with disability are heard.

We are calling for reforms that:

✅ Protect the rights, dignity and choice of people with disability
✅ Ensure families and unpaid Carers are not expected to fill gaps left by reduced supports
✅ Recognise that disability support is not the same as ordinary parenting
✅ Address rising NDIS costs through stronger oversight of providers and the system, not by reducing supports
✅ Protect people from being forced into unnecessary treatments or assessments
✅ Maintain fair and timely review rights when circumstances change
✅ Ensure new foundational supports are fully available before existing supports are reduced

Every Carer story is different 🌈❤️🧡💛💚💜
Gary opens up about his experience supporting his former partner Tony, who lives with dementia.
Their story is a reminder that Carers come from all backgrounds, identities and relationships.

💜 Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Elder abuse is any action, inaction or behaviour that causes harm, distress or fear to an older person, particularly within a relationship where there is an expectation of trust.

It may look like controlling someone’s money, pressuring them into decisions, isolating them from family and friends, speaking on their behalf without consent, threatening them, or not providing the care and support they need.

Attending the launch of SA Refugee Week, hosted by the Australian Migrant Resource Centre, was a moving reminder of the stories, experiences and contributions that help shape our community.

This year's theme, A Million Stories, recognises the more than one million people who have been welcomed to Australia through our humanitarian program since 1947.

We heard just three of those stories from the Hon Hieu Van Le AC, Flying Officer Kbora Ali and Vicki Achiro Juma from Adelaide City FC. While each journey was different, they all spoke to the resilience and determination it takes to build a new life, and the importance of finding opportunity, connection and belonging along the way.

We caught up with the new Minister for Human Services, Katrine Hildyard MP, to talk about issues that matter to Carers.

We shared some of the key priorities Carers have raised with us, including the importance of Carers having a stronger voice and being involved in decisions that affect their lives.

Thanks for taking the time to listen and have a positive conversation about how Carers can be better supported.

We look forward to continuing this conversation and working together to achieve positive outcomes for Carers.
