Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre

Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre SNRC and Community Pantry is a not-for-profit group assisting the most vulnerable in the community.

The organisation opened its doors from the Mare and Foal Mall moving a few years later to be co-located with the Scone Library in Kelly Street. As the services grew and with the need for additional space the service relocated in 2000 into the offices behind their existing location. The service has two part time employees and a full time Manager, as well as a team of volunteers to run the many prog

rams that are available to for the community. In January 2010 the Neighbourhood Centre were provided access to a shop front location. The move to 130 Liverpool Street the old Council Building provided a visual impact and one that would allow the Centre to grow. Once again we have grown, developed and moved into a fresh new location at 89 Kelly Street, Scone. The Neighbourhood Centre has established a service that generates its own income to run varied programs for the community.

💙 Do you know what your Neighbourhood Centre does? 💙

Every day, people walk through our doors carrying challenges that are often hidden from view. Some need food. Some need a shower. Some need help navigating a difficult situation. Others simply need someone to listen.

At the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre, that’s exactly where we start by listening.

From there, we help, support, refer, advocate and, when we see a need in our community, we create programs to meet it.

We provide:
🍎 A Breakfast Van to ensure local students start their school day with a meal.
🥫 A Community Pantry for those doing it tough.
🚿 Showers and laundry facilities for people experiencing homelessness or hardship.
🏢 Meeting rooms for community groups and services.
🚆 TrainLink bookings.
✍️ A Justice of the Peace service.

To help keep these vital services running, we also work hard to generate our own income through:
☕ The Made in Scone Café
🪑 Table and chair hire
❄️ Cool room hire

The reality is that we achieve all of this with very limited funding.

As the cost of living continues to rise, so does the demand for our services. More families are reaching out for support. More people are struggling to make ends meet.

If your workplace, club, organisation or community group is looking for a local cause to support, we’d love to talk with you. Whether it’s a one-off donation, ongoing sponsorship, fundraising activity or community partnership, every dollar stays right here in our community helping local people.

Together, we can make sure that no one has to face hardship alone.

It's cold today.

Imagine if you didn't have a roof over your head. Imagine not knowing where your next meal was coming from, or how you were going to keep your children warm and dry tonight.

Our staff are greeted with situations like this nearly every day. It is heartbreaking. We try to maintain professional boundaries while showing empathy and support, but sometimes that balance is incredibly difficult.

Every day we meet people who are simply trying to survive. Many are not there because of poor choices or lack of effort. Often, life circumstances have not aligned, and a series of events has caused families to find themselves in situations that continue to spiral.

Today it's raining. For some people, the only shelter available is a tent. Just for a moment, put yourself in their shoes. Imagine facing a cold, wet night with nowhere else to go.

Life is becoming harder. Food prices continue to rise. Rent, electricity, fuel and everyday living expenses are stretching household budgets beyond breaking point. More and more people are seeking help, while the funds and resources available to support them are being stretched further than ever before.

When I look at the laundry and shower facilities we were fortunate enough to receive funding for, I am reminded how important they are. They are used regularly by people in our community and provide something many of us take for granted, clean clothes, a hot shower, and the dignity every person deserves.

Behind every request for assistance is a person, a family, a story. Sometimes all they need is someone to listen, someone to care, and a community willing to lend a hand.

Today, as the rain falls and the temperature drops, spare a thought for those doing it tough. A little kindness can make a world of difference.

VAN REOPENS MONDAY🌞 Free Breakfast for Local School Kids 🍞🍎🥣

Did you know the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre’s Breakfast Van is out each school morning providing free breakfast to any child on their way to school?

With a mix of menu options available each day, there’s something for everyone whether it’s cheese toasty, bacon & egg rolls, fruit, banana bread or another tasty breakfast to help start the day right.

A good breakfast can make such a difference, and we’re proud to offer this support to local children and families in our community.

This service simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. A huge thank you to Sawyer's Mining Services Woolworths Scone RSL Club
SportsPower Scone and Coles for helping us keep the van running and ensuring kids can head off to school with full tummies and ready to learn.

We are so grateful for the support of local businesses who continue to back the work we do and help make a real difference for children and families in our community. 💛

Such kindness, thankyou

This week we pause to reflect, acknowledge and stand alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people, families and communities.

At the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre, we remain committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities—supporting culturally safe early intervention, strengthening connections and helping build communities where everyone feels respected, supported and included.

Tuesday 26 May marked National Sorry Day, an important day to pause and acknowledge the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Stolen Generations. It is also a reminder for all of us to continue listening, learning and bringing empathy, respect and a genuine commitment to truth and healing into the work we do every day.

During this week we also recognise the incredible contribution of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and Aboriginal practitioners. Thank you for the knowledge, leadership and tireless work you do within your communities and across the sector. Your guidance and collaboration are deeply valued.

The Upper Hunter Shire Council will hold a Flag Raising Ceremony in the Forecourt at the Scone Administration Building at 10am on Friday 29 May 2026. Community members are warmly invited to attend as we come together in respect, reflection and unity.
