🌿 Volunteer Mornings Coming Up! 🌿

We’ve got some great opportunities coming up to get involved, get your hands dirty, and help care for our local environment!

Join us for our regular nursery volunteer mornings (Wednesday & Thursday 9am-12noon), where we’ll be w**ding, potting, propagating native seedlings, and continuing to grow plants for local restoration projects.

We also have additional volunteer mornings coming up including: gardening in the Sarina Community Native Gardens on Friday 19th June and a coastal clean-up coming up on Thursday 25th June at Cape Palmerston with the Mackay Bushwalking Club β€” a fantastic chance to help protect our coastline and enjoy a morning outdoors.

Whether you’re a regular volunteer or thinking of joining us for the first time, we’d love to see you there! Contact us for more details.

These events are supported by Mackay Regional Council

🚨 Pest Alert
🐜 Yellow crazy ant (Anoplolepis gracilipes)

Yellow crazy ants form dense super-colonies that seriously impact both plants and animals, damaging crops, horticulture and impacting outdoor lifestyles.

πŸ” How to identify them:

πŸ‘‰Adults have a long, slender body approximately 5 mm long
πŸ‘‰Yellow to brownish in colour
πŸ‘‰Dark brown abdomen (sometimes striped dark brown)
πŸ‘‰Legs and antennae are approximately 5 mm in length (they look very long in comparison with the body)

Yellow crazy ants are not currently known in the Isaac Region, but they have been detected in the neighbouring Whitsunday Region, where treatment is underway.
