It's finished! 🎉

Our back lawn has gone from bare dirt to a proper turfed area with shade sails overhead, and it looks brilliant.

This gives us a usable, sun-safe space all year round for our juniors, training, club functions and families to sit and watch what's going on. Anyone who has stood out there on a 35-degree day will know exactly why this matters.

The project was funded by Waratah Beach SLSC with a Community Grant from Community Bank Toora and Foster. Thank you for backing us. This is local support at its finest.

Further thanks for their in-kind support and for keeping the costs down to All Seasons Synthetic Turf and LV Shade and Shutters - we appreciate the help!

A huge thank you to Andrew Edbrooke, who took an idea people had been talking about for years and got it done.

We look forward to seeing you using this space this summer. 🏖️

Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club – Strategic Plan Launch

We're excited to share the launch of the Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. 🎉

Developed through workshops, consultation and collaboration with our members and volunteers, this plan sets a clear direction for the next five years and outlines how we will continue to:

🏖️ Keep people safe on the beach and around water
🤝 Strengthen our Club culture and support volunteers
🌱 Build stronger community connections
📈 Enhance governance and financial sustainability
🏠 Improve our facilities and assets to support lifesaving, training and community activities

As a 100% volunteer-run organisation, having a clear roadmap for the future is critical to ensuring we can continue delivering lifesaving services, training opportunities, youth development programs and community benefits for many years to come. The plan was developed through a structured planning process involving Club leaders and members and now provides a shared vision for our future.

A special thank you to South Gippsland Shire Council for supporting this project through its Community Grants Program. Council's funding enabled the Club to engage Deb Martindale of SentientCo, who provided professional strategic planning support and facilitated the consultation and planning process that has resulted in this important document.

We also thank everyone who contributed their ideas, feedback and enthusiasm throughout the process. This plan belongs to all of us and will help guide the Club as we continue saving lives and shaping better futures.

☀️🏄‍♀️ Only a little over five months until Nippers returns!

While winter is still with us, we're already looking forward to longer days, warmer weather, and another fantastic Nippers season at Waratah Beach SLSC.

As we prepare for the upcoming season, we'd like to again thank the Department of Sport and Recreation Victoria for their support through the Sporting Club Grants Program. The grant funding contributed to our much-needed new Nipper boards last season. These boards have already made a huge difference, helping our young members build confidence, develop surf skills, and most importantly, have fun in the water.

Planning for the 2026–27 Nippers season is already underway, with volunteers and committee members working behind the scenes to make sure we're ready for another great summer on the beach.

For now, we'll keep dreaming of sunshine, sand between our toes, and seeing hundreds of smiling Nippers back on the beach in a few short months. 🌊☀️

🥈WARATAH’S FIRST EVER IRB MEDAL! 🥈

Waratah Beach SLSC placed second yesterday in the women’s mass rescue at the Victorian IRB state championships!

This is Waratah’s first ever state medal in IRB racing after 12 years of competition!
Such an awesome reward for years of effort.

Waratah Beach also placed 7th overall in Victoria which is our highest ever placing at the state championships.

Joining with our neighbours Inverloch SLSC and Woolamai Beach SLSC saw members from all 3 clubs receive a medal.
Well done as well to our neighbours Venus Bay SLSC on finishing 3rd overall in the state with a lot of medals across their team!

We’re off to IRB states this weekend!

The Waratah Beach SLSC will be off to Lorne this weekend for the IRB racing state championships!

This will be the last carnival here in vic for 2026 and we’re hoping to bring home some bling!

We’re excited to announce the finalists for the 2026 Life Saving Victoria Awards of Excellence. Every season, our members make outstanding contributions to their clubs, communities, and waterways.

These finalists include young leaders, dedicated volunteers, and clubs that are leading the way in innovation and inclusion. They truly represent the best of our movement.

This year’s finalists for awards like Young Volunteer of the Year and Volunteer of the Year are among the most trusted and respected lifesavers in our movement. They come from clubs all over Victoria, including Mildura, the Surf Coast, metropolitan Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula, and through to Gippsland. These nominees show the wide reach and strength of our volunteer network.

Together, these finalists show the strong leadership, commitment, and service that support lifesaving in Victoria. Their inspiring stories come from every part of the state.

At the center of it all is the Club of the Year award, which honours clubs that make beaches and waterways safer and help build stronger communities. This year’s finalists are Mildura Life Saving Club, Anglesea SLSC Altona Life Saving Club Waratah Beach SLSC and Portsea Surf Life Saving Club.

Every finalist shows the passion, commitment, and impact that makes LSV an essential rescue and community service organisation.

Coastal Hazard Warning for abnormally high tides
Issued at 4:04 am EST on Thursday 4 June 2026

Where:
For people in parts of Central, East Gippsland, West and South Gippsland and South West Forecast Districts.

Locations which may be affected include Melbourne, Brighton, Frankston, Ocean Grove, Inverloch, Port Albert, Phillip Island, and Lakes Entrance.

When:
Tides are likely to rise well above the normal high tide mark during the afternoon and evening high tides.

Situation:
A deep low pressure system moving over Bass Strait brings strong to gale-force westerly winds and elevated sea levels across central and eastern coastlines. The low moves eastwards over the Tasman Sea during the day shifting winds southwesterly and maintaining elevated sea levels about central and eastern coasts.

Abnormally high tides, which may lead to sea water flooding of low-lying coastal areas are possible between Cape Otway and the VIC/NSW border, including Port Phillip and Western Port Bay, during today.

Elevated sea levels have since peaked about western coasts.

What you should do:
The Victoria State Emergency Service and Life Saving Victoria advise that people should be aware of the following:
* Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters.
* Stay away from beaches, tidal rivers and creeks.
* If you have a boat or water craft, haul out if possible or check your moorings are secure.
* Keep away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways.
* Stay informed - monitor weather warnings and forecasts at the Bureau of Meteorology website, and warnings through VicEmergency app, website and hotline (1800 226 226).

The next Coastal Hazard Warning will be issued by 11:00 am AEST Thursday.
