World No To***co Day is held annually on 31 May to raise awareness of the dangers of to***co use and highlight the need for stronger regulations to protect people from the harms of smoking.

This year the theme focuses on ‘unmasking the appeal’, exposing how the to***co and ni****ne industry continues to reinvent and repackage its products to hook children and adolescents.

As Australians we should be proud to be a world-leader in to***co control and remain focused on our national commitment to reduce the daily smoking prevalence to less than 5% by 2030.

We know illicit to***co is a serious issue. With an estimated 40,000 to***co retailers nationwide, Australia now has more to***co shops than supermarkets.

Investment in campaigns to discourage smoking has declined substantially, and continued investment is required to generate and sustain population-level smoking reductions.

We also recognise that, according to AIHW data, 2 in 3 people who smoke, want to quit smoking.

If you or a loved one is seeking support to quit, please head to our website or speak to your local GP.
