Bayside City Council has entered the election period in the lead-up to local Council elections.

As set out under the Local Government Act 2020, Council resources must not be used for electoral matter (other than explaining the election process).

During the election period, all published materials including social media posts must be reviewed to ensure they meet the requirements of the Act and our Election Period Policy. This may result in some delays in response times.

Comments on this channel will be turned off during this period.

Large important trees bring life, shade, oxygen and beauty and are highly valued by our community, which is why we want to protect them🌳

But what makes a significant tree, well, significant?

Let’s have a look at five different examples of what makes a tree eligible for Bayside’s Significant Tree Register 👇

Last week Zoe Daniel MP and Mark Dreyfus MP toured the Highett Grassy Woodland with Bayside Mayor, Cr Fiona Stitfold and the Friends of Highett Grassy Woodland group 🌱🌳

The three-hectare Highett Grassy Woodland in the south of the former CSIRO site on Graham Road is an important site for conserving and regenerating habitat for rare or threatened flora and fauna species in Bayside 🦋🍃

Conserving the Highett Grassy Woodland reserve will ensure the future protection of an endangered community of trees, shrubs, grasses, and other plants.

As a next step, we’ve drafted a Masterplan and a high-level layout of what the site could potentially look like, and we’d love your feedback.

Gardens for Wildlife - nature strip transformation ✨🌱

Did you know that more than one third of all public green space in Melbourne is nature strips? Planting your nature strip with indigenous plant species can extend wildlife habitat, increase biodiversity and more.

Over the coming months local Hampton resident, Annie, will be transforming her nature strip with a range of indigenous plants. We'll be updating you on Annie’s nature strip transformation as she progresses - check out part one now 👇

Planting nature strips with indigenous plant species can extend wildlife habitat from our gardens, increase biodiversity and assist with wildlife corridors to our bushland, heathland and foreshore reserves and other green spaces, lessens overall maintenance along with a host of other benefits.

We have joined the effort to transform the way cans, cartons and bottles are recycled and reward members of the community who make a deposit at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre station in Cheltenham 💚

The new scheme provides a 10 cent refund for eligible single-use aluminium, glass, plastic and liquid paperboard (carton) drink containers between 150ml and 3 litres. – just look out for the 10 cent symbol on the label to confirm eligibility. You can even donate your earnings to a charity or not for profit.

It’s easy to participate in the CDS by using the drive-in refund point at the Bayside Waste and Recycling Centre, 144 Talinga Road, Cheltenham, which is being transformed into a state-of-the-art facility 🚗✨

We’ve drafted a masterplan to conserve, manage and protect the Highett Grassy Woodland. We need your help to understand if the plan strikes the right balance between protecting the natural environment and enhancing visitor enjoyment 🌱

The Highett Grassy Woodland in the south of the former CSIRO site on Graham Road contains indigenous species and natural habitats, including Yellow Box eucalypts that are considered rare in the Bayside region 🌻

The draft Masterplan shows how the site could look and be enjoyed in the future. The vision for the site is an open woodland dominated by River Red-gum and Yellow Box with a scattered understorey of small trees, low shrubs and a moderately dense grassy field layer 🌿

Visit Have Your Say to explore the site, view the proposed layout and share your views - link in comments.

Consultation closes 19 May 2024 📆
