Our first Barefoot Bowls family day was a huge success. The event was paired with beautiful weather and great attendance by our members and families.

We had so much fun, and great feedback on the day, that we are thinking of doing it all again next year.

It was such a wonderful opportunity to get together share stories, support one another and create a community.

We hope to see even more familiar and new faces join us next year!

"I think it's important to honour those that sacrificed their life in service of their country and embrace the families that were left behind."

For Tegan Tippett, the weight of service and sacrifice began at just 22 years old when she enlisted in the Army to support her children and serve her country. Her first deployment to Afghanistan with the 10th Force Support Battalion as a Sergeant would shape her life forever.

Tegan reflects on the profound responsibility of repatriating soldiers killed in action.

"It was a privilege, but it was gut-wrenching. Knowing what they did for their country helped me do my part. You can't just go to pieces. It's your duty to deliver them safely on their last journey home."

While her service carries the lasting weight of loss, it is also filled with moments of immense pride.

We had one of our first nights under the garden lights recently and plenty of events coming up at the Sub Branch this month.

September's social included lights on in the garden. Paul's brother John recited the oath on his last day in the Army. He enlisted 16 Jan 1979. Thanks for your service. They thought they'd try out some brotherly teamwork with the mortar!

The members meeting that was held on Sat 12 Sep was a few short of a quorum and is now rescheduled for this Friday 9 Oct with sausage sizzle after.

Then our family barefoot bowls day will be on this Sunday 11 Oct.

There will be no social night tonight because we have our family day coming up this month!

On Sunday 11 October join us for Sandgate RSL Sub-Branch Family Day at the Sands Bowlo next door from midday to 3pm.

-Free barefoot bowls for all
-Kids outdoor games
-Function room
-Food platters
-Additional food menu and drinks available from Bowlo

We have confirmed attendance from 32 members and families already and if you still want to join us please contact Paul Harris.

💪 Fitness, friendship and a little history lesson!

Year 12 Certificate III in Fitness students at Sandgate District State High School are teaming up with the Sandgate RSL Sub Branch Inc. to help local veterans stay active — while learning from their experiences along the way.

Students complete health and fitness screenings, design personalised programs and work one-on-one with veterans through resistance training sessions. The program is proving to be a great opportunity for different generations to learn from each other. 🤝

You’re Invited – Social Night
Friday 4th September | From 5.00pm

Join us for a relaxed evening of great company, laughs and good vibes.

Enjoy a delicious bite to eat, grab a refreshing drink from the bar and settle in for a fun-filled night with mates.

There’ll be raffles running throughout the evening, including our popular meat trays up for grabs!
It’s the perfect chance to unwind, catch up and enjoy your night in good company.

Camaraderie | Care | Commemoration

Our last Friday social was good fun! Around 30 attended and free snacks along with heart healthy fruit and dips were provided.

The Meat trays from Deagon Meats were a hit and a couple of signed NRL Dolphins players lists from the Captain's run were also raffled.

John Scales won one and gave it to Liem Harris who was very excited.

We also welcomed our newest committee member Michael Hewitt.

Vale Kevin Dasher Dean and condolences to his niece Donna who was at the social.

After months of dedication, collaboration, and hard work, the Veteran Garden and Seating Area is now officially complete!

This beautiful new space is more than just a garden, it’s a sanctuary for our veterans. A place to:
- Reflect in peace
- Connect with others
- Tend to an edible garden
- Share stories and build community

Paul Harris, Sub-Branch Vice President, shared: "The Board and members of the Sandgate RSL Sub-Branch are grateful to be funded through the Queensland Government’s Honouring our Veterans Grants Program, helping us to bring this project to life."

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this transformation possible.

Together, we’re creating a space where our veteran community can heal, grow, and thrive.

We have received some really lovely photos of our members and families from RSL Queensland and Dolphins NRL at the club's Captain's Run in May.

Following the Dolphins' Round 9 clash against the Melbourne Storm, RSL Brisbane North District President and veteran Mark Orreal was presented with a team-signed ANZAC Round jersey on behalf of Brisbane North District.

From cheering in the stands to receiving a lasting token of appreciation, the Dolphins NRL have shown incredible support for our veteran community. 🐬

We had our last veteran fitness session with Sandgate District State High School today.

The program has been worthwhile for the Year 12 students and the “human" guinea pigs.

Thanks very much to Dan Parkes from SDSHS for starting this initiative.

It was great working with him and the students in the program to help them achieve their Physical Ed certificate.

Les, Michael and Paul all enjoyed themselves and look forward to participating again next year.

Veterans should keep some space in their diary and join the group next year!
