Today we celebrated World Ocean Day, a global event that raises awareness about the importance of our oceans and the role they play in supporting life on Earth. It is a reminder to care for our oceans, protect marine life, and inspire future generations. 🐋

We had a go at making our own ocean inspired artwork. The children explored with oil pastels and created beautiful oceanscapes filled with colourful coral, wonderful whales, fantastic fish, and all sorts of underwater treasures. They delighted in experimenting with different colours and blending shades together, bringing their vibrant ocean scenes to life through creativity and imagination.

We were incredibly honoured to be nominated for the Pine Rivers Queensland Day Awards, with a couple of our volunteers accepting the award on behalf of Samford Playgroup.

Thank you to everyone who nominated us and recognised the important role community playgroups play in supporting local children and families.

This recognition belongs to our amazing team of dedicated volunteers, who each play an integral role in making our playgroup such a welcoming and special place. Thank you also to our members who join us each week, bringing laughter, friendship and community spirit to every session.

Finally, we would like to thank the Samford community, RSL and the many local businesses who continue to support us. Your generosity, encouragement and involvement help us create meaningful experiences for children and families and ensure our playgroup continues to thrive.
We are proud to be part of such a wonderful community.

🚣‍♀️ Row, Row, Row Your Boat 🚣‍♂️

We went on a magical rowing adventure with Mindful Movers Yoga today. We started our session by shaking colourful silks, warming up our bodies and getting ready for yoga fun.
Our friends then rowed down a gentle bubbling river, spotting animals along the way. We practiced lots of wonderful poses like frog, butterfly, cow, sheep and tree poses. 🐸🦋

As always, the wonderful Yoga Fairy came to help put us to sleep for some peaceful meditation and relaxation. We finished our session by blowing big bubbles and practising our breath work. 🫧

Our friends explored a magical winter sensory activity creating frosty snowflakes with glue and sparkling salt crystals ❄️ Using their creativity and fine motor skills, the children designed beautiful snowy pictures while experimenting with textures and patterns.

This simple hands-on activity encourages creativity, concentration and sensory exploration while making gorgeous wintery artwork.

Welcome to winter ❄️ What better way to celebrate than with icy ice cream sensory play! 🍦

You too can make this fun activity at home. Simply combine cornflour and conditioner, mixing until you reach a soft, mouldable consistency. For the sprinkles, add a few drops of food colouring to rice and mix until coated, you can choose any colours you like. Pom poms make the perfect cherries on top! 🍒

This playful sensory activity encourages creativity, imaginative play and fine motor development while providing lots of wintery fun.

May 27th marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week, a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how each of us can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.

At playgroup, we recognise the importance of creating inclusive spaces where children and families can learn about and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, stories and connections to Country. Through play, storytelling, art, music and shared experiences, children begin developing respect, understanding and a sense of belonging within our diverse community. 🔴🟡⚫️

3…2…1… BLAST OFF 🚀✨

We zoomed into space during our Mindful Movers session this week. The children practiced rocket ship poses, transformed into shooting stars and comets, landed on the crescent moon, and flew all the way to the shining sun 🌙☀️

We then shook our sillies out with colourful silks, stretching and dancing along to groovy tunes. The Yoga Fairy arrived to help calm little bodies with peaceful meditation before finishing with breath work, blowing big magical bubbles together 🫧🧘

We are always so thankful when parents contribute at playgroup. One of our wonderful mums kindly brought in a big book ‘The Gruffalo’ and shared the story with the children. It was such a special and engaging experience, with lots of smiles, imagination and participation from our little friends.

Thank you so much for your wonderful contribution and for helping create meaningful moments for our playgroup community 💛
