Salisbury Art Society

Salisbury Art Society Tuesday: 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Wednesday: 9:30am to 12:30pm
Saturday: 9:30am to 1:30pm Your ideas and involvement are most welcome. We were ALL beginners once.

The aims of the Society are to foster art in general and to promote painting and drawing in particular in the Northern area. The Society is under the direction of a committee who is elected from our general membership at our AGM each year. As a member it is expected that your participation and help in planned events would aid the committee and all members to fulfil the endeavours of the Society. B

y becoming involved you will find the camaraderie, companionship and common interest most rewarding. We have a newsletter which contains information on upcoming events, greetings, outside exhibits, artist profiles and art information. Members are encouraged to submit contributions. We have a choice of evening, weekday and Saturday workshops to provide for all preferences. Usually these are sessions where you can paint or draw, or use our extensive library of art books and magazines, many of which can be borrowed. If you prefer you can just chat, watch and / or ask questions. There is usually someone who can give advice or help with an artistic problem you may be experiencing, and a cup of tea or coffee is usually the best spot to make new friends. We hold four 'quarterly nights' a year, usually with a theme, a critique, and a prize for the painter who shows marked improvement. Members are also encouraged to enter the many 'outside' exhibitions run by various service clubs. Often entry forms are sent to us for distribution. Also there are times when we are able to arrange transport of your paintings to an exhibition provided you help with 'petrol' money. We welcome your interest and encourage you to visit us during any of the sessions listed. Make yourself known and feel free to watch and talk with members so you can acquaint yourself with what we do. Any prospective member can bring work to be assessed, or sit and join us, without charge, on three separate occasions, before they commit to signing their membership form. This gives them an indication of whether we can give them what we need or not, and also makes them feel a little more at home should they decide to join. We do not have a prerequisite that you are already a practising artist or that you have achieved a set standard with your work. Instead, if you are 'new' to the game, we will try to help you along the way, and offer you advice and maybe boost your confidence at the same time. What we do ask is that, once a member, you will involve yourself with events within the Society and not remain on the outside looking in.
