Key Psychological Aspects of Volunteering....it's not just about the bread โค๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

Motivations (Functional Approach): People often volunteer to satisfy underlying needs, such as expressing values (altruism), gaining knowledge, enhancing self-esteem, or socializing.
Mental Health Benefits: Regular volunteering (especially over 100 hours/year) is strongly associated with lower symptoms of depression and anxiety, higher happiness, and greater life satisfaction.
Social & Emotional Impact: Volunteering combats loneliness by fostering community, reducing social isolation, and providing a sense of belonging.
Cognitive & Physical Health: Studies show links to improved cognitive functioning, reduced pain, and lower mortality rates in older adults. The "Helper's High": The act of helping others triggers the release of endorphins, creating a positive emotional state and increased feelings of self-worth.

๐ŸŒฟ A little update from Dani ๐ŸŒฟ

The past few months have been some of the hardest Iโ€™ve had โ€” behind the scenes thereโ€™s been a lot of personal turmoil and itโ€™s taken a toll on both my mental and physical health. Some days Iโ€™ve just been doing my best to keep things moving, even when Iโ€™ve felt far from okay.

Because of that, I havenโ€™t always managed to run groups as consistently as Iโ€™d like. If youโ€™ve ever turned up to find something wasnโ€™t on, Iโ€™m truly sorry. I know how disruptive that can be, and Iโ€™m grateful for the patience and kindness so many of you have shown. ๐Ÿ’›

The truth is, Little Village was never meant to be just me trying to hold it all together โ€” itโ€™s about community. A place where kids can connect, parents can meet, and friendships can grow (our Minecraft Club has been such a beautiful example of this ๐ŸŽฎ). But for it to keep going, I need help.

This week Iโ€™ll be reviewing all the groups โ€” some will continue, some may need to pause, and some will only work if others can step in and help run them. If youโ€™ve ever thought, โ€œI could help with that,โ€ now is the perfect time. Iโ€™ll be here Sunday morning if anyone would like to drop in and talk about what they could offer. Even a small role could make a huge difference.

Thank you again for being part of Little Village โ€” whether through coffee chats, kidsโ€™ groups, or simply showing up with a smile. Even through the hard days, this place gives me hope, and I believe it can keep growing if we build it together. ๐ŸŒธ
