Port Stephens Cycle Group Weekly Rides
Ride ratings (averages):
1. Easy 17kph (or at the slowest riders pace)
2. Easy/Medium 20kph
3. Medium 23-24 kph
4. Medium/Fast 25-26 kph
5. Fast 28+ kph
PSCG acts as a conduit to put people together to share rides. All rides are on a "mates ride" basis meaning you ride at your own risk. There is no charge to join or participate in rides. We are very casual with little or no structure, and simply depend on people posting and/or joining rides. All rides are mixed gender and age (taking into account ratings).
All scheduled rides are weather dependent. Generally, if raining and/or very high winds, rides can be called off. Advice occurs through relevant WhatsApp group.
There are a number of WhatsApp groups – Saturday Bay Grade PS Cycling group, Saturday Medium Grade Ride Group, Casual Bay MTB, Tuesday and Wednesday groups, and Finglers group. To get access to any group please post here or use email address below.
CASUAL BAY MTB
This group rides almost every day. Most rides are on an ad hoc basis. Details are posted on their WhatsApp group.
MONDAY FINGLERS Rating – Easy/Medium 17-20 kph
Monday Finglers leaves Roy Wood Reserve (RWR) at 0730am. Has a special route that is variable but can go to Little Beach, Fingal Bay and Soldiers Point, covering a distance of 20km or so. Finish at Soldiers Point Bowling Club.
TUESDAY TREDLERS Rating – Medium 23-24 kph
Tuesday Tredlers ride leaves from the corner of Foreshore Drive and Soldiers Point Rd at 0730am. This ride generally goes to Birubi Beach. They usually ride around 30 km at 24 kph but they ride to the slowest riders pace. This is a social ride with no pressure - no one is left behind.
They will be riding along Soldiers Point Rd/Salamander Way and can meet riders at the roundabout near Salamander Centre around 0800am, and a few minutes later at the roundabout of Salamander Way and Nelson Bay Rd. If you want to join the ride elsewhere along the way, please advise where and we will give an estimated time to meet up.
WEDNESDAY RIDE Rating – Easy 17 kph
Wednesday ride leaves from the corner of Foreshore Drive and Soldiers Point Rd at 0730am. A very casual ride at a relaxed pace - no one is left behind, with regular regroups. Good conversation and great coffee while meeting others and getting a bit fitter. E-bikes are welcome. This ride usually goes to Shoal Bay or Fingal Bay, so up to 20km or so. On the way, we collect riders at RWR and Dutchies Beach (toilet block end). If you want to join the ride elsewhere along the way please advise where and we will give an estimated time to meet up. They always stop for the mandatory coffee.
THURSDAY – rest day
FRIDAY FINGLERS Rating - Easy/Medium 17-20 kph
Friday Finglers leaves Roy Wood Reserve (RWR) at 0730am. Has a special route that is variable but can go to Little Beach, Shoal Bay and Soldiers Point, and covers a distance of 20km or so. Coffee stop included.
SATURDAY ‘Bay Grade’ RIDE Rating - Fast 28+ kph
Bay Grade leaves Roy Wood Reserve, at the corner of Foreshore Drive and Sandy Point Rd at 0700am. Ride distance can be as high as 50+ km and has a regular circuit to Birubi Beach, out to Bob’s Farm, Taylors Beach and back to near Soldiers Point. Definitely suited to road bikes (no E-bikes permitted). Coffee stop follows the ride.
SATURDAY ‘Medium Grade’ RIDE Rating – Medium 24+kph
Medium Grade leaves from the top of Spinnaker Way, Corlette 0720am. It goes to Birubi Beach and out to Marsh Road turnaround. Best suited to road bikes. No one left behind, regular re-groups. Coffee stop follows the ride.
SUNDAY ‘Recovery’ RIDE Rating - Medium/Fast 25-26kph
Recovery ride leaves from the Bottle Bank at Salamander Centre at 0730am. This ride is generally around 40 km to Soldiers Point, Little Beach, Shoal Bay, Fingal Bay and back to the center of Nelson Bay for coffee. Best suited to road bikes.

This is a very casual ride at a relaxed pace -- no one is left behind, regular regroups. Great coffee and good conversation is our aim while meeting others and getting a bit fitter. As usual this on a "mates ride" basis meaning ride at your own risk and will be cancelled if it is raining. Anyone is welcome to join our ride it is mixed gender and speed, Ebikes are welcome, but remember it is at a relaxed pace around 17kph average. This ride usually goes to Shoal Bay or Fingal we generally collect at RWR and Dutchies (toilet block end), if you want to join the ride along the way please advise where and we will give an estimated time to meet up. Always stop for the mandatory coffee.

Saturday 18 January Bay Grade will be doing their usual bunch ride from Roy Wood Reserve corner of Foreshore Drive and Sandy Point Rd from 7.30am. This is a quickish ride of 45 km plus at around 28-30 k/ph. Definitely suited to road bikes.

18 January PSCG will be doing their usual ride starting top of Spinnaker Way Corlette 7.20. Best suited to road bikes.
