It’s almost tree planting season!!!

Help plant habitat that will sustain wildlife for generations to come.

Teaser alert: Feeling blue about the state of the world? Feeling out of control and anxious?Disappointed by local and world politics? You’re not alone! But against all odds and challenges, like rising costs, distracted people, lower volunteer numbers and lower income, we managed to pull together a great tree planting season!

Help us combat the impacts from climate change, roadkill and habitat loss, improve your wellbeing and come tree planting with us! We need you more than ever before to plant 30,000 indigenous plants this year, to help our koalas. Tree planting will kick off on Wild Koala Day Australia(weather permitting), on May 3! Our tree planting events are fun for the whole family, all ages and abilities!

Volunteers: Be the first to hear about our news and events and become a member via our website: www.mpkoalas.org.au

Local businesses: Become a sponsor of our program - we always welcome new local partners and every tax-deductible donation helps us plant more trees! Email us at [email protected]

It takes a village to do what we do! Check out our website or follow us on socials for all the details. Our full event schedule will be released very soon. We cannot control what happens elsewhere but we can influence what happens in our own backyard 🐨💚🌳

What an incredible woman!

We have always had the utmost respect and admiration for Rob from Tarcombe Animal Shelter, however seeing how she is coming back after loosing everything in the January fires, just takes our level of admiration of her to a whole new level.

Having met her a few times and supported her work for a few years, we knew this fire wasn’t going to stop her. It’s amazing to see her in this video- there’s honestly no words to describe her strength and dedication to wildlife.

We know things are extremely hard for us all financially atm & lots has been raised already, but this rebuild is going to cost LOTS! So any amount you can spare- WILL help! Rob is one of the most dedicated wildlife carers we personally know. She’s literally sleeping in a horse float and knowing her, will continue to do that for as long as she needs to while she focuses on putting everything into caring for wildlife. That’s just Rob- animals before herself always!

💔Wongari (dingo) pack on K’gari (formally named Fraser Island) to be culled.

First & foremost:
Our hearts truly break for Piper James’ family & friends. Piper was only 19 (one year younger than Libby) and was enjoying the trip of a lifetime, exploring our beautiful country. Currently Libby is backpacking in the UK & Europe and as a parent, i know first hand how exciting yet also nerve wracking it is having your child on the other side of the world living their wildest dreams.

My heart absolutely breaks into a million pieces for her family & friends thinking of what they must be going through. No one should have to endure their pain.

💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
But now our hearts shatter for 10 of the wongari pack near the Maheno wreck.

The Queensland environment minister, Andrew Powell, has confirmed that 10 of the wongari pack near the Maheno wreck on K’gari are currently being caught & euthanised. We have emailed the minister to express our thoughts on the culling of this pack and ask our followers to do the same:
[email protected]

We don’t know what more anyone can do as far as educating people about wongari on K’gari. Many people still feed them & approach them and the fines (up to $3,000) are simply not enough to deter people from doing such.

It’s up to individuals to educate themselves and heed the warnings. It’s up to us humans to do better, to respect our wildlife.

We can only hope that visitors to this incredible & unique island paradise, start treating the island and wild beings that inhabit it, better!

Over time, humans have failed this beautiful wongari pack and now, 10 of them pay for that with their lives.

RIP Piper James 💔
RIP to the 10 wongari lives of the K’gari Maheno pack lost💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

Last week we were able to get these supplies to Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter.

We (Rebecca & Libby’s brother, Sawyer) met up with a lovely local lady, Pauline, through Libby & Sawyer’s pet sitting business late one night before she headed away the following morning. When sawyer asked where she was going, she said Tocumwal. Sawyer told her he knew where that was, that we go there sometimes and that he knows the people that run the wildlife shelter. The lady knew of them too!

When sawyer returned to the car & told me, I instantly seized the moment and went back to introduce myself but also ask, if she’d be willing to drop some supplies at the shelter donation box for LKWC. She said yes, but she didnt have much room.

So we quickly rushed home, gathered some supplies we have that we know they’re in need of, stopped at the supermarket for some important human treats, and dropped them back to Pauline.

Huge thanks to Pauline for being our courier. If she had more space we would have loaded more supplies 😜 but this helped.

On Jan 9, we also made a $250 donation to DT’s bank account.

Donations like this are only possible because of the amazing support of our followers. Thankyou to every person that donates supplies or money, and buys rescue kits or possum habitat boxes.

We knew this amazing lady would be out there doing what she could, as soon as she could. This is why, on January 9 we deposited $200 directly to her account. This donation was made possible because of the support of our regular donors and those that purchase possum boxes and rescue kits from us.

Krysti is an exceptional rescuer (and carer). If you’ve got a few dollars to spare we can assure you, it will make a huge difference. Whether it be fuel (which we know she’s going through loads of), equipment or other things needed to do the work she does- every bit will help.

Be sure to follow her page and donate to her what you can, when you can.

We were going to do a post today to share some other Victorian shelters but this one beat us to it.

Thankyou to our amazing followers that have liked & shared the posts and donated to Rob at Tarcombe.

Here’s some more incredible shelters worthy of a bit of support if anyone can manage it.

Don’t underestimate what $5 can do. Imagine what shelters could do if 100 people donated just $5 a week, a fortnight or a month? It would make an incredible difference.

We’d also add into this list the following:

Pam at Wildwood Wildlife Shelter - Gariwerd
Shelley at Hamilton Wildlife Shelter -Victoria Australia
The team at Koalas of Raymond Island
Krysti at Rescue Rehabilitate Release
Sue at Sue's Roos Kangaroo Rescue-Rehab-Release
Nikki at Red Box Wildlife Shelter
Michele at South Oakleigh Wildlife Shelter

Whilst not all are dealing with animals impacted by fires, they’re all dealing with costs of saving our wildlife.

Legends
There's probably many other carers that need to be mentioned here - tag them below or comment so everyone can see the places dealing with some of the wildlife fallout.. Some I can only find on Facebook.
