Youthsafe was pleased to present at the Apprentice Employment Network NSW & ACT (AEN) NSW Field Officers Conference, discussing an important but often overlooked workplace safety issue – work-related road and vehicle use.

For many apprentices and trainees, driving to work, travelling between worksites and using vehicles as part of their role are everyday realities. The decisions they make on our roads can have lifelong consequences for themselves, their workmates and their families.

Our session encouraged discussion around fatigue, distraction, speaking up, protecting your licence and building the same safety mindset on the road that young workers bring to the workplace.

Thank you to AEN for the invitation and to everyone who participated so enthusiastically in the conversations.

These learners may not be behind the wheel, but they are certainly on the road to success!

Just as Youthsafe's learner drivers prepare to become provisional drivers by gaining experience, building confidence and getting support these dogs from Nepean Therapy Dogs are utilising the same skills to prepare for a very important role in helping others.

It was great to spend Compliance, Safety and Wellbeing Week with electrogroup apprentices across five road safety sessions.

The conversations focused on real-world decisions:
- getting home safely
- fatigue
- licence loss
- speaking up
&
- how the standards we practise outside work follow us into work.

Thank you to ElectroGroup and the apprentices for such honest and thoughtful participation.

Feedback from ElectroGroup described the sessions as..

🚘Australian Road Safety Awards 🚘
Youthsafe was proud to be named a national finalist in the Road Safety Innovation Award category at the recent Australian Road Safety Awards, held at Parliament House in Canberra.

Our nomination recognised Ls to Ps: Safer Steps to Solo Driving; Youthsafe’s latest online resource designed to help learner drivers and their supervising adults prepare more safely for the critical transition to solo driving.

While we did not take home the award this year, being recognised among an outstanding field of road safety advocates, educators and practitioners from across Australia is an honour as well as an opportunity to connect with people of vision and passion.

Our Chief Executive, Warren Johnson, was pleased to catch up at the event with Dave Kennedy, President of the NSW Driver Trainers Association, and Matthew Irvine JP, Driver Education Specialist at PCYC: two seasoned contributors to safer road outcomes.

Congratulations to all the deserving winners and particular shout out to the Australian Road Safety Foundation for its continued leadership in championing road safety innovation through an awards program now in its 15th year.

Youthsafe presenter, Hamish, recently facilitated three 'In working Order' presentations with the Careers Pathway students at TAFE NSW St Leonards campus. The students were engaged and really valued hearing from someone with lived experience.
