Men’s sheds provide men with a range o

f opportunities to discover, develop and use new skills, establish active social networks and to help them give something back to their local community. Sheds can be invaluable for many men, especially those who have experienced a life changing event, or change in their life through retirement, social and geographical relocation or other circumstances and who are at risk of becoming isolated and lonely. Whilst there are many services that may try to address these needs, often these services are reactive and rely solely on direct engagement or a call for help directly from a community member.. There are many men that do not engage at a grass roots level and simply fall through the cracks. Men’s Sheds often provide a safe and secure environment to enable men to participate in their community by providing a place to meet, talk, get involved in their local community and learn about men’s health and wellbeing. A Men’s Shed is a place that men (particularly older men) come together to socialise, network, make friends, and learn and share skills. Typically, men undertake a wide variety of different activities in
sheds – for example, woodwork, metal work, car and furniture restoration, photography, ceramics, leatherwork and even volunteer their time and skills transfer.. A Men’s Shed can also be a safe space where men feel confident in gathering in a gender friendly environment that encourages discussion and sharing of information.

The Rupanyup Men’s Shed Association was formed in March 2014 when grassroots support for men's issues was raised for Rupanyup and surrounding districts. Rupanyup Men’s Shed Inc (ABN 60 654 121 529) was originally registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) with the following subtypes: • advancing health • advancing education. The effective date of charity registration was 7 April 2014 and was handed in in 2019 due to a change in our charity focus as to us no longer raising donations for our projects.
