The 1st of June marks the Global Day of Parents, celebrating the role that all kinds of parents play in the lives of children. At Kyabra, we are so lucky to get to work alongside parents through all of our different groups and programs, and they bring such rich stories with them.
UNICEF has developed a short film to launch on Global Day of Parents, following the story of four families.

Today marks the end of Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month in Queensland. This annual initiative has been an opportunity to come together, raise awareness and understanding of this form of violence, and take practical steps to prevent DFV across our state.

All Queenslanders – from big organisations, sporting clubs, community groups, to everyday community members – have a role to play, and there are many ways to get involved.
We can all make a difference and contribute to a safer community by:
• promoting respect
• challenging harmful behaviours
• sharing accurate information
• supporting people who may be impacted by DFV.

Find information, resources and practical steps you can take to prevent DFV in your communities at www.qld.gov.au/dfvpmonth.

May 28th is LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Day. According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (2019), domestic and family violence disproportionately affects LGBTIQA+ communities, with 61% experiencing violence from an intimate partner. As stated by the LGBTQ Domestic Violence Awareness Foundation, the day “helps to end violence and abuse within LGBTQ communities by increasing visibility and understanding and giving hope and courage to victims and survivors”. Kyabra is a place where human rights are respected, and people of diverse genders or sexual orientation are welcomed and supported.

If you’d like to learn more about our DFV programs across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay, please call (07) 5441 3837 to speak to a friendly member of our team.
