THE OUTBACKISTAN SONG CONVENTION shines a light on songwriters and their songs. We've invited a few BMUP favourites for the launch.
JEFF LANG
Visionary Australian guitarist, singer-songwriter masterfully blending roots, blues, folk and celtic sounds. Renowned for his virtuosic slide guitar technique, this three-time ARIA Award winner delivers raw, evocative live performances that have redefined independent music for over three decades. Damn legend. One of Australia's best.
H***Y HICKS
Top shelf, genre-blending sounds spanning blues, folk, rock and alt-country. These gals play all around the world and are returning to the mountain. Always great energy this pair. The cream of the duo crop.
ROADTRIPPERS
The idea for OUTBACKISTAN came from our Acoustic Feast gig on the Thursday night at last year's BMUP. We sat down with acoustics and played our quieter songs and told the stories. We don't get opportunities to play quieter stuff these days. It was one of our all-time fave gigs. So anyways, let's try it again we reckon.

DAVE STEEL
Singer/songwriter, raconteur and tasteful players with a distinguished history in the roots music scene in Australia. Steely is a founding member of Weddings Parties Anything, and has a cracker new album, ‘Wooden Music.’ Terrific songwriter and story-teller supreme.
JULIAN JAMES
Americana and hill-country blues songwriter. And a voice! Great player and performer who has been touring internationally. Welcome back to the mountain JJ … along with partner BEC, who is debuting her own show as well.
DAVID FLOWER
A rare talent. Funky and off-the-wall songwriter, actual hipster, and born performer. Welcome back Flower.
GUMPY
Always been a fan of the Gump ...originality to burn, prodigious writer and an ARIA nominee! Best known for the psychedelic roots and reggae project Tinderbox, but it’s his lyrics! At the mt he can chisel out his song writing nous. One of the best add-libbers around.
KATIE RICHARDS
Northern girl with a stack of talent. She's got her own style and writes great tunes. A song writing lifer who looks around, lives it and writes it all down, with beautiful melodies.
SWEET PAYNE
Cooktown girl (now Kuranda). Remember the Barefoot Belle's? Straight away it was plain there was good songwriting among that punk inspired noise. She's still doing it playing in various guises and still writing her own songs. First time playing at BMUP.
ADAM HARPAZ
Northern NSW songwriter on the road, with a peaceful momentum. And he happens to be around after the Wallaby, so why not.
