St John’s Church Ross
St John's Church is on the list of Churches in Tasmania to be sold by the Anglican Diocese.
"The Anglican Church may be surrendering their history but the Friends of St John's and the Ross community aren't about to surrender theirs."
If you would like to pledge your support, become a friend of St John's and be kept informed of what's happening please contact us and we will keep you up to date via email. Currently a small group of passionate St John's friends are working to secure the purchase of the building. This will only happen with your support and community funding. As St John's is no longer a consecrated Anglican Church the aim of Friends of St John's is to have this beautiful heritage building owned by the Ross community for everyone to enjoy. It would be a non-denominational Church open to anyone for baptisms, weddings, funerals and a venue for public or private events. It will be open to the public again.
The commitment of the Anglican Church in Tasmania to provide restorative justice, recognition and support to survivors of sexual abuse through redress has led to the pending sale of many Church properties throughout Tasmania. St John's is on the list. At the end of the last Anglican Church service at St John's on Saturday 7th of September 2019, a short statement by Bishop of Tasmania Richard Condie, revoked the Statement of Consecration issued 150 years prior by Bishop Charles Bromby on the 14th of May 1869.
